Paykan Football Club is a football team based in Tehran, Iran. The team is sponsored by Iran's main automobile manufacturer Iran Khodro and is named after one of its older products; the Paykan car. Paykan F.C. is the football club of the multisport Paykan Sport Club which also includes basketball and volleyball teams.

The club was moved to Nishapur from May to November 2011, however due to lack of support in Nishapur, the club moved back to Mashhad. In April 2013 Ali Sheykh Eslami bought Payam Imam Reza Football Club and renamed the club "Payam Vahdat Khorasan Football Club". The re-founded club, Payam Khorasan F.C., was formed in July 2021, taking its name from the year of foundation of the predecessor club and securing a place in the 2020-21 2nd Division. Ex-head coach Younes Masoudi was appointed as president and former player Mohammad Babaei was chosen as head coach.
Shahdari Zanjan Football Club was an Iranian football club based in Zanjan, Iran. This team was donated by the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and started its activity in League 2 in 1991. The uniform of this team was yellow. This team also had a history of participation and of course the championship of the Azadegan League in its record, but due to the financial crisis, it never had the opportunity to participate in the Persian Gulf Pro League. Due to the lack of sponsors and financial assistance, this team fell from League 2 to the Premier League of Zanjan Province. And according to what has been said, the points of this team were sold to Yaran Ghadir Hashtgerd F.C. By the way, This team was able to beat Persepolis F.C. 4–1 in a preparatory match.

The season featured 15 teams from the 2007–08 Persian Gulf Cup and two new teams promoted from the 2007–08 Azadegan League: Payam Mashhad as champions and Foolad. Damash replaced Pegah. The league started on 4 August 2008 and ended on 26 April 2009. Esteghlal won the Pro League title for the second time in their history.

The competition started on 12 September 2016, and the final was played on 11 May 2017. Naft Tehran defeated Tractor Sazi in the final, earning their first title.
