The Goa liberation movement was a movement which fought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Goa, Portuguese India. The protests involved citizen journalism, student activism & political demonstrations. The civil unrest ceased when premier official status for Konkani in the Devnagari script was granted. Marathi was declared an associate official language of Goa.

Special Status for Goa is a proposal to make the Goa state as an entity with additional powers within the Indian Union. Proponents of the idea have argued that Government of Goa should be given certain powers by the Indian Government by amending Article 371I of the Constitution of India, to preserve the unique culture and history of this subregion of Konkan. These powers would allow the Government of Goa to enact legislation to protect the private property rights of the Goans and put restrictions on the sale of land by Goans.

The Goa Vikas Party (GVP) is a regional political party from Goa, India, was led by Francisco Pacheco. The GVP was founded by late Sitaram Bandodkar, and the current president is Francisco Pacheco's partner Viola Pacheco. It was revived by Pacheco, who left the Nationalist Congress Party and joined the GVP ahead of the 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly election. It is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is a part of the ruling coalition in Goa, the other members being the BJP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. The GVP has two members in the Goa Legislative Assembly: Pacheco from Nuvem but he resigned and Caetano Silva from Benaulim.
Goa Forward Party is a regional political party in the western coastal Indian state of Goa, led by Vijai Sardesai. The GFP fielded four candidates in the 2017 Goa Assembly election and won three seats. It played a crucial, if controversial, role in the return of the Bharatiya Janata Party to power in the March 2017 election results in Goa. The party's motto is "Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn". The party was launched on 25 January 2016 and its symbol is the coconut.
The Revolutionary Goans Party is a regional party in the Indian state of Goa. First registered as a non-governmental organization when founded in March 2017, it received recognition as a political party from the Election Commission of India in 2022. The party contested 38 seats in the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly election, winning the St Andre constituency. The party's "anti-migrant" policies have been classified as similar to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
