No. 9 Air Experience Flight (9 AEF) is one of thirteen Air Experience Flights (AEFs) run by the Royal Air Force for the Air Cadet Organisation. The primary purpose of an AEF is to provide air experience to members of the Air Training Corps, Combined Cadet Force (RAF) Section and occasionally, the Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets and the Air Scouts.
No. 9 AEF, like the other twelve AEFs employs a range of civilian and military staff; the pilots are all current or former RAF pilots. [1] All civilian ground crew are provided by Babcock International under a private finance initiative (PFI). [2]
No. 9 AEF currently operate the Grob Tutor T1, a 2-seat light training aircraft, shared with the co-located Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron (YUAS), from RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire. Previously, No. 9 AEF were based at;
RAF Finningley before the airfield was decommissioned in 1996,[ citation needed ] with the de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk T.10. [3]
RAF Church Fenton before the airfield was decommissioned in 2013.
RAF Linton-On-Ouse as the last unit to serve at the station when it was decommissioned in 2020.
Air experience flying provides a basic flying experience for cadets of the Air Cadet Organisation and other aviation related organisations, flying up to four or five training sorties a day for twenty five minutes at a time, including aerobatics. [1]
The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a British volunteer youth organisation of the United Kingdom; aligned to, and fostering the knowledge and learning of military values, primarily focussing on military aviation. The Grob G 115 is a general aviation fixed-wing aircraft, primarily used for flight training. It is built in Germany by Grob Aircraft. The E variant with a 3-blade variable pitch propeller is in service with the Finnish Air Force, the Royal Navy and Army Air Corps for Flying Grading and in the Royal Air Force as part of No. 6 Flying Training School which provides flying to both University Air Squadrons and Air Experience Flights to Cadets of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. As of 2020, the Tutor is still being used by the RAF for some Elementary Flying Training (3FTS) but is due to be phased out in favour of its replacement, the more advanced Prefect T1.

The Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training Branch), often abbreviated to RAFVR(T), was a Volunteer Reserve element of the Royal Air Force specifically appointed in a cadet training role within the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Members of the RAFVR(T) had no call-up liability and often operated part-time with the Air Experience Flights and Volunteer Gliding Squadrons, which provide flight experience for the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

The Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) was established in 1936 to support the preparedness of the U.K. Royal Air Force in the event of another war. The Air Ministry intended it to form a supplement to the Royal Auxiliary Air Force (RAuxAF), the active reserve for the RAF, by providing an additional non-active reserve. However during the Second World War the high demand for aircrew absorbed all available RAuxAF personnel and led the RAFVR to quickly become the main pathway of aircrew entry into the RAF. It was initially composed of civilians recruited from neighbourhood reserve flying schools, run by civilian contractors with largely RAF-trained flying instructors as well as other instructors in related air war functions, such as observers and wireless operators.
10 Air Experience Flight (AEF) is one of thirteen such units run by 6Flying Training School of the Royal Air Force. It was formed in the 1950s, along with other AEFs, to teach basic flying to members of the Air Training Corps (ATC), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) (Royal Air Force) Section. It mainly flies cadets from the local wings of Cumbria and Lancashire Wing (the North Lancashire half only as the Cumbrian half use 11 AEF at RAF Leeming, due to the distance from RAF Woodvale), Greater Manchester Wing, Merseyside Wing, No. 2 Welsh Wing and CCF contingents.

No. 13 Air Experience Flight (AEF) is an Air Experience Flight of No. 6 Flying Training School RAF, based at Joint Helicopter Command Flying Station Aldergrove in Northern Ireland. Sharing three Grob Tutor T1 trainer aircraft with the Northern Ireland Universities Air Squadron it offers flight experiences to cadets of the Air Training Corps and the RAF elements of the Combined Cadet Force. It was established in 2019, more than 22 years after the previous Northern Ireland AEF had been disbanded.
