Nolan Allan (born April 28, 2003) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Allan was drafted in the first round, 32nd overall, by the Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. [1]

Playing career

Junior

In the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, the Prince Albert Raiders selected Allan in the first round, third overall. [2] In the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected in first round, 32nd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. [1] He was later signed by the Blackhawks to a three-year, entry-level contract on September 17, 2021. [3]

Prior to the 2022–23 season, on October 4, 2022, he was named captain of the Raiders. [4] However, his tenure did not last long. On November 16, 2022, Allan and teammate Reese Shaw were traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds for Easton Kovacs, Braydon Dube, Gabe Ludwidg, and six draft selections, including two first rounds selections in 2023 and 2024. [5] With the Thunderbirds, Allan won the Ed Chynoweth Cup as 2023 WHL playoff champions. [6] This victory qualified the team for the 2023 Memorial Cup, where they reached the final, before being defeated by the Quebec Remparts. Allan was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team at the end of the tournament. [7]

Professional

On October 8, 2024, Allan made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in a 5–2 defeat to the Utah Hockey Club. [8]

On December 12, 2022, Allan was named to Team Canada to compete at the 2023 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. During the tournament he recorded one goal and one assist in seven games and won a gold medal. [9]

The Seattle Thunderbirds are a major junior ice hockey team based in the city of Kent, Washington. They are part of the U.S. Division of the Western Conference in the Western Hockey League. Founded in 1971 as the Vancouver Nats, the team arrived in Seattle in 1977 and played as the Breakers until 1985, when they adopted the Thunderbirds name. A seventh brother named Gary is said by his brothers to have been the best hockey player of all seven boys. The 2006–07 WHL season was the 41st season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Twenty-one teams completed a 72-game season, with the Chilliwack Bruins competing in their inaugural season. The Everett Silvertips won their first Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for the best regular season record. The Medicine Hat Tigers won the President's Cup, defeating the Vancouver Giants in seven games. However, the Giants captured the 2007 Memorial Cup as tournament hosts, defeating the Tigers in the championship game.

The 2007–08 WHL season was the 42nd season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 20, 2007, and ended on March 16, 2008. The Tri-City Americans won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for the best regular season record. The playoffs began on March 21, and ended on May 7, with the Spokane Chiefs defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the championship series to claim their second Ed Chynoweth Cup and a berth at the 2008 Memorial Cup tournament, which Spokane would go on to win.
