Norbert Ernst (born 21 November 1977) is an Austrian operatic tenor.
Ernst was born in Vienna and grew up in Edlitz. Later he studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy and the concert singing at the J. M. Hauer Conservatory in Wiener Neustadt with Gerd Fussi. He studied song and oratorio with Charles Spencer and Robert Holl at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and attended master classes with Kurt Equiluz and Walter Berry.
As a concert singer Ernst performed in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands in the Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and in Utrecht. [1]
His first engagement took Ernst to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf in 2002 as a member of the ensemble, where he made his debut as David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg . He also sang this role at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Guest appearances have taken the tenor to the Volksoper Wien, the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin and as Telemaco in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria to the opera festival in Montreux. In autumn 2003, Ernst made his debut as Brighella under the conduct of Pinchas Steinberg at the Opera National de Paris. In summer 2004, he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival as the 3rd Squire in Parsifal under the conduct of Pierre Boulez. Further invitations followed for 2005 and 2006 again as 3rd Squire and helmsman in The Flying Dutchman and in 2007 as David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Sebastian Weigle conducting, under whom he also made his debut as helmsman at the Liceu in Barcelona in 2007. The highlight of his career so far, however, was his debut at the Vienna State Opera in January 2008, where he stepped in at short notice as David in the revival of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under the direction of Christian Thielemann and received much applause from audience and press. Since the 2010/11 season, Ernst has been a member of the Vienna State Opera. [5]
At the Salzburg Festival in 2012 he performed in a Mozart Matinee , and in 2015 he played the role of Jaquino in the new production of Beethoven's Fidelio . [6]
Theo Adam was a German operatic bass-baritone and bass singer who had an international career in opera, concert and recital from 1949. He was a member of the Staatsoper Dresden for his entire career, and sang at the Bayreuth Festival from 1952 to 1980. He particularly excelled in portraying roles by Richard Wagner, especially Wotan in Der Ring des Nibelungen, which he also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, among others. In concert, he was a much admired Bach singer and also drew acclaim for his interpretation of the title character of Mendelssohn's Elijah. He was a voice teacher at the Musikhochschule Dresden.
Gerhard Stolze was a German operatic tenor.
Michael Schade is a Canadian operatic tenor, who was born in Geneva and raised in Germany and Canada. He and his wife Dee McKee, and their youngest child live in Vienna, Austria; the rest of the family lives in Canada.

He began his career as a tenor for operettas, but has developed into singing Heldentenor parts by Richard Wagner including Tristan, Siegmund, Siegfried and Parsifal. A member of the Staatsoper Berlin, he has appeared internationally at venues including La Scala, The Proms and the Bayreuth Festival.
Daniel Behle is a German classical composer and operatic tenor. He has performed at international opera houses and festivals, and has recorded both operas and Lieder recitals.

Horst Laubenthal, real name Horst Neumaier, is a German operatic tenor and academic voice teacher. He is known internationally, both as an opera singer especially in Mozart roles such as Belmonte, Don Ottavio and Tamino, and as a concert and recital singer, with a focus on works by Johann Sebastian Bach. He has appeared at major opera houses and festivals, including the Glyndebourne Festival and the Salzburg Festival, and made many recordings, including rarely performed works such as Korngold's Violanta.
Bent Norup was a Danish operatic heldenbaritone. He was a member of the Royal Danish Theatre and opera houses in Germany, and appeared internationally, especially in stage works by Richard Wagner, including his signature role Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He also performed in contemporary opera and in concert. He was appointed a knight of the Order of the Dannebrog.
Hermann Gallos was an Austrian operatic tenor and academic teacher. He was a long-standing ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera and performed regularly at the Salzburg Festival from 1922 to 1950, in roles such as Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Valzacchi in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss.
Kwangchul Youn is a South Korean operatic bass and academic voice teacher. He made an international career based in Germany, from 1994 to 2004 at the Berlin State Opera. He has performed leading roles at international opera houses and festivals, such as Gurnemanz in Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival, Mephisto in Faust at the Vienna State Opera, and King Marke in Tristan und Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera.
Enid Szánthó was a Hungarian operatic contralto. From 1928, she belonged to the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera and appeared at the Bayreuth Festival from 1930, first as Erda in Der Ring des Nibelungen. She gave guest performances in opera and concert in Florence, London, Berlin, Paris, and New York at the Metropolitan Opera, where she made her debut as Fricka in 1938. Her career was de facto ended later that year when Austria came under the Nazi regime.
Hermann Wiedemann was a German operatic baritone and academic teacher. He was a long-term member of the Imperial Court Opera in Vienna from 1916, where he appeared as Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss 196 times, and as Beckmesser in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg 155 times. He was Beckmesser also in a recording from the Salzburg Festival 1937, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. He performed internationally at leading opera houses and festivals, such as the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires and the Zoppoter Festspiele. He appeared in the world premieres of Wolf-Ferrari's I gioielli della Madonna in Berlin, Busoni's Die Brautwahl in Hamburg, and Lehár's Giuditta in Vienna.
William Wernigk was an Austrian operatic tenor, who was a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera for 44 years, in roles such as Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Cassio in Verdi's Otello and Goro in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, as well as many comprimario roles. He appeared as a guest around Europe and performed at the Salzburg Festival both in concert and on stage, taking part in the world premiere of Gottfried von Einem's Dantons Tod there in 1947. He performed in early complete opera recordings such as Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss with Robert Heger in 1933, and Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Arturo Toscanini in 1937.
Hans Clemens was a German tenor who had an international career in opera and concert from the 1910s through the 1930s. He performed with several major opera houses, including the Städtische Oper in Berlin and the Metropolitan Opera. He is particularly remembered for his performances and recordings of Wagner's David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Mime in Der Ring des Nibelungen. After retiring from the stage, he worked as a voice teacher in Los Angeles.
