Two or three issues of the journal are published each year. The publications are both general issues and special theme issues with guest editors. We warmly invite prospective inquiries about special issues. NJES is particularly interested in topics that place different areas of English studies (e.g., linguistics, literature, teaching and learning) in dialogue. While scholars based in institutions outside the Nordic countries are welcome to submit proposals for special issues, the journal expects at least one contribution to be from a scholar at a Nordic institution.
The general issues serve as a venue for original research in the fields of English studies, including language, literature, culture, and the teaching and learning of English. For the general issues, NJES invites submissions from scholars with an affiliation to a Nordic institution.
NJES also publishes conference proceedings and festschrifts to honour a Nordic colleague if they can be subsumed under a special theme. The journal also publishes reviews of books thought to be of interest to its readers.
The policy of the journal is also to provide a possibility for early career or doctoral researchers to publish their articles on English language or literature in a peer-reviewed journal along with more established scholars.

Mythlore is a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal founded by Glen GoodKnight and published by the Mythopoeic Society. Although it publishes articles that explore the genres of myth and fantasy in general, special attention is given to the three most prominent members of the Inklings: J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Charles Williams. The current editor-in-chief is the Tolkien scholar Janet Brennan Croft. The Tolkien Society describes Mythlore as a "refereed scholarly journal".
Ahmar Mahboob is a Pakistani linguist. Currently he is an associate professor at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Sydney. He has worked in the fields of language policy development, pidgin and creole languages, NNEST studies, English language acquisition, English language teaching and teacher education, World Englishes, pragmatics, and minority languages in South Asia. Ahmar earned his PhD from Indiana University Bloomington in 2003, and has published extensively. He was the co-editor of TESOL Quarterly, alongside Brian Paltridge, for several years. He was also the Associate Editor of Linguistics and the Human Sciences and serves on the editorial boards of a number of journals. Ahmar has organised a number of regional, national, and international conferences and is the convenor and the co-creator of the Free Linguistics Conference.
Scientific writing is writing about science, with an implication that the writing is by scientists and for an audience that primarily includes peers—those with sufficient expertise to follow in detail. Scientific writing is a specialized form of technical writing, and a prominent genre of it involves reporting about scientific studies such as in articles for a scientific journal.
