As of the 2023–24 school year, the district, comprised of eight schools, had an enrollment of 7,165 students and 553.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.0:1.[1]
After High Tech High School moved to a new facility in Secaucus for the 2018–19 school year, the former High Tech High School campus was acquired by the North Bergen district, with plans to construct a new junior high school for grades 7-9 on the site.[5][6] The school officially opened in September 2025 and was named in honor of township mayor Nicholas Sacco.[7][8]
The district had been classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "B", the second-lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[9]
Core members of the district's administration are:[31][32]
George J. Solter Jr., superintendent
Steven Somick, business administrator
Hugo D. Cabrera, board secretary
Board of education
The district's board of education, comprised of nine members, sets policy and oversees the fiscal and educational operation of the district through its administration. As a Type II school district, the board's trustees are elected directly by voters to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with three seats up for election each year held as part of the April school election; a tenth board member is appointed to represent the sending district of Guttenberg. The board appoints a superintendent to oversee the district's day-to-day operations and a business administrator to supervise the business functions of the district.[33][34][35] Of the nearly 600 school districts statewide, North Bergen is one of 12 districts with school elections in April, in which voters also decide on passage of the annual school budget.[36]
