North Carolina Black Film Festival [1] is a yearly film festival that focuses primarily on works by Black or ethnic members of the film industry. The festival is held annually and features full-length narratives, short films, mobile entertainment as "all short form content including experimental films, music videos and webisodes", and documentaries, all by and/or featuring Black or ethnic writers, directors, actors, and actresses. The purpose of the North Carolina Black Film Festival is to publicly recognize, celebrate, and promote the work of ethnic film makers and to encourage film production and culture within the film industry in a highly competitive selection process.

New Hanover County is one of 100 counties located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 225,702. Though the second-smallest NC county in land area, it is one of the most populous, as its county seat, Wilmington, is one of the state's largest cities. The county was created in 1729 as New Hanover Precinct and gained county status in 1739. New Hanover County is included in the Wilmington, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which also includes neighboring Pender County.

North Carolina Highway 132 (NC 132) is a north-south North Carolina State Highway entirely in New Hanover County. The highway follows College Road for the duration of its route. The southern terminus of NC 132 begins at U.S. Route 421 (US 421) in the census-designated place of Myrtle Grove south of Wilmington. Continuing north, NC 132 continues along a major north-south artillery road in the city of Wilmington. Between Shipyard Boulevard and its northern terminus, NC 132 runs concurrently with US 117. NC 132 shares a short concurrency at the eastern terminus of Interstate 40 (I-40), before continuing north toward Castle Hayne. The northern terminus of NC 132 is located at a roundabout with US 117 and NC 133 just south of the main business district of Castle Hayne.

The Wilmington Ten were nine young men and a woman who were wrongfully convicted in 1971 in Wilmington, North Carolina, of arson and conspiracy. Most were sentenced to 29 years in prison, and all ten served nearly a decade in jail before an appeal won their release. The case became an international cause célèbre, in which many critics of the city and state characterized the activists as political prisoners.

The North Carolina Science Festival (NCSF) is a month-long, yearly celebration encompassing hundreds of events throughout the state of North Carolina. The festival is organized by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus with the goal of highlighting the educational, cultural and economic impact of science in the state. NCSF events include hands-on activities, talks, lab tours, exhibits and performances for all ages. The event has grown into the largest science festival in the world.

Totally Viral is a British comedy television programme, composed entirely of clips from video-sharing Internet websites such as YouTube. It featured narration from English actor Donald Sinden, and premiered in the UK on 27 November 2006. The series' target audience was 16 to 34-year-old men – it was produced by Spun Gold TV in association with RDF Television. It featured jokes from DV3 Productions, an animated opening title sequence created by Jonti Picking of Sumo Dojo, and "Sweet Talk", a short film by Lorcan Finnegan. In promotion of the show, the channel boss Steve North remarked that virals were "truly ... the entertainment of the future". Totally Viral was initially broadcast on weeknights on UKTV G2, before moving to Dave when the channel was rebranded in October 2007 – at this time, a new season of 10 episodes was commissioned, which began on 26 October 2007.

Films produced in Wilmington, North Carolina are know to be B Movies and usually made straight to video or flop hard in the theatres. This is mainly because Wilmington is more affordable than other places to film. Some other reasons for Wilmington's appeal is the local University (UNCW) and the cities beach's along with historic buildings and vast swamps outside of Wilmington. It has remained the largest film area in the state since the 1980s.
