Plovdiv Province is a province in central southern Bulgaria. It comprises 18 municipalities on a territory of 5,972.9 km² with a population, as of February 2011, of 683,027 inhabitants. The province is named after its administrative and industrial centre — the city of Plovdiv.
Svilengrad is a town in Haskovo Province, south-central Bulgaria, situated at the border of Turkey and Greece. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Svilengrad Municipality. As of December 2009, the town has a population of 18,132 inhabitants.
Parvomay is a village, part of the municipality of the same name in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Plovdiv Province, close to the towns Sadovo and Chirpan. The word literally means First of May, i.e., May Day, in English and is sometimes transliterated as Parvomai or Purvomai.
Northern Thrace or North Thrace constitutes the northern and the largest part of the historical region of Thrace. Important cities include Plovdiv, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Haskovo, Yambol, Pazardzhik, Asenovgrad, Kardzhali, Dimitrovgrad, Kazanlak and Smolyan. Northern Thrace has an area of 42,073 km².
The Upper Thracian Plain constitutes the northern part of the historical region of Thrace. It is located in southern Bulgaria, between the Sredna Gora mountains to the north and west; the Rhodopes, Sakar and Strandzha to the south; and the Black Sea to the east. A fertile agricultural region, the Upper Thracian Plain proper has an area of 16,032 square kilometres (6,190 sq mi) and an average elevation of 168 metres (551 ft). The plain is part of Northern Thrace. The climate is transitional continental. The highest temperature recorded in Bulgaria occurred here: it was 45.2 °C (113.4 °F) at Sadovo in 1916. The precipitation is 550 millimetres (22 in) a year. Important rivers are the Maritsa and its tributaries, the Tundzha, the Stryama, the Topolnitsa, and the Vacha. Important cities include Plovdiv, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik, Asenovgrad, Haskovo, Yambol and Sliven.
Krichim is a town in Bulgaria, located in the southwestern part of Plovdiv Province close to Perushtitsa. It lies at the foot of the Rhodopes' northern slopes in the plains of Thrace, 20 km southwest of Plovdiv. The river Vacha, an important tributary of the Maritsa, runs through the town. Krichim is the only place in Krichim Municipality.
Maritsa Municipality (obshtina) is located in the Plovdiv Province, southern Bulgaria on the northern bank of the Maritsa River. It has 30,676 inhabitants and consists only of villages. The municipality has thriving industry with around €400 000 000 invested in the recent years. Its administrative center is Plovdiv but the city is not part of the municipality.
Radinovo is a village in Maritsa Municipality, Plovdiv Province, Southern Bulgarian. Its name is sometimes seen as Radenovo. As of 2006 the population is 720.
Voisil is a village in Maritsa Municipality, Plovdiv Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 the village has 981 inhabitants.
Skutare is a village in the Maritsa Municipality, southern Bulgaria on the two banks of the Avramica River. As of 2006 it has 2 091 inhabitants. Skutare is situated 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from the city of Plovdiv. A major foreign plant producing fabrics was built in the village and was one of the first large investment projects in the region.
The Roman theatre of Plovdiv is one of the world's best-preserved ancient theatres, located in the city center of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It was constructed in the 90s of the 1st century AD, probably under the rulership of Emperor Domitian. The theatre can host between 5000 and 7000 spectators and it is currently in use.
Krumovo is a village in the Plovdiv Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 3,378 inhabitants. The village is located at 2 km to the south of the Maritsa river and at 12 km to the south-east of Plovdiv. The Plovdiv International Airport is located in the vicinity of the village. It is also famous for its grapes sort Krumovski mavrud. Every 2 years the BIAF Airshow is held on the Krumovo Airbase, resulting in heavy parking problems in the village.
Central district is one of the six districts of Plovdiv in southern Bulgaria. It has 84,431 inhabitants. Most of Plovdiv's major sights are situated in the district - Roman stadium, Roman Odeon, Ancient theatre, the Watchtower on Sahat tepe, the central street and many others. There is a large numbers of shopping centers, bars and administrative buildings. There are a lot of green spaces.
Southern district is one of the six districts of Plovdiv in southern Bulgaria. It has a population of 79,330. The district includes the so-called "Küçük Paris", Belomorski and Ostromila quarters and Komatevo.
Western district is a district of Plovdiv, southern Bulgaria. The district includes the quarters Proslav, Hristo Smirnenski, Mladeshki Halm and Mladost, and has 39,158 inhabitants. The largest sports complex in Eastern Europe is located in a pleasant park on the southern banks of the Maritsa river. It includes Bulgaria's largest stadium "Plovdiv", rowing base, football terrains, tennis courts, pools as well as cafés, restaurants and places for rest.
