Northumberland County Career and Technology Center is a small, rural, public, vocational school located in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Enrollment was 166 pupils grades 10-12th in 2015, with 37% of pupils eligible for a free lunch due to family poverty. Additionally, 8% of pupils received special education services, while none of the pupils were identified as gifted. [10] Thirty-five (35%) percent of the pupils were female and sixty-four (64%) percent were males in 2015. Transportation to the school is the responsibility of each member school district.

Northumberland County, Pennsylvania County in the United States

Northumberland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 94,528. Its county seat is Sunbury. The county was formed in 1772 from parts of Lancaster, Berks, Bedford, Cumberland, and Northampton Counties and named for the county of Northumberland in northern England. Northumberland County is a fifth class county according to the Pennsylvania's County Code.

Intellectual giftedness is an intellectual ability significantly higher than average. It is a characteristic of children, variously defined, that motivates differences in school programming. It is thought to persist as a trait into adult life, with various consequences studied in longitudinal studies of giftedness over the last century. There is no generally agreed definition of giftedness for either children or adults, but most school placement decisions and most longitudinal studies over the course of individual lives have followed people with IQs in the top two percent of the population—that is, IQs above 130. Definitions of giftedness also vary across cultures.

The school was founded by three Northumberland County public schools in 1967. The member school districts are: Line Mountain School District, Mount Carmel Area School District and Shamokin Area School District. Each school board sends an elected representative to serve on the Northumberland County Career Technology Center school board which is called a Joint Operating Committee. The school cannot levy taxes to fund its programs. Funding for the school is in the form of per pupil tuition paid by the sending district. Additionally, the school can apply for funding from the state, federal government and for grants. The school function under the Pennsylvania School Code Chapter 339 Vocational Education Standards. Line Mountain School District

The Line Mountain School District is a small, rural public school district serving portions of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. The district covers an area of 154.5 square miles (400 km2). Municipalities within its boundaries are the borough of Herndon and multiple townships, including Lower Augusta Township, Little Mahanoy Township, Zerbe Township, West Cameron Township, Jackson Township, Upper Mahanoy Township, Washington Township, Jordan Township, and Lower Mahanoy Township. According to 2000 federal census data, it served a resident population of 8,975. By 2010, the district's population increased to 9,184 people. The educational attainment levels for the population 25 and over were 86.8% high school graduates and 10.3% college graduates. The district is one of the 500 public school districts of Pennsylvania.

Mount Carmel Area School District

Mount Carmel Area School District is a small, rural, public school district in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. The district is one of the 500 public school districts of Pennsylvania. It serves Mount Carmel, Kulpmont, Marion Heights, and Mount Carmel Township in Northumberland County, as well as the borough of Centralia in Columbia County. The Mount Carmel Area School District encompasses approximately 24 square miles (62 km2). According to 2000 local census data, it served a resident population of 12,815. By 2010, the district's population declined to 12,555 people. The educational attainment levels for the School District population were 85.3% high school graduates and 14.3% college graduates.

Shamokin Area School District

Shamokin Area School District is a small, rural public school district located in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, US. The Shamokin Area School District community consists of the city of Shamokin and the townships of Coal, East Cameron and Shamokin. It is located at the southern end of the anthracite coal region in Northumberland County in central Pennsylvania with a population of approximately 21,000. According to the US Census Bureau, by 2010, the district's population declined to 20,876 people. The educational attainment levels for the Shamokin Area School District population were 82.4% high school graduates and 9.3% college graduates. The district is one of the 500 public school districts of Pennsylvania.

Programs

Northumberland County Career Technology Center offers a variety of career tracts.

Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty include hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, non permanent hair removal such as waxing and sugaring and permanent hair removal processes such as electrology and intense pulsed light (IPL).

Penn College NOW

In 2015, Northumberland County Career and Technology Center offered several dual enrollment courses in conjunction with Pennsylvania College of Technology. Penn College NOW classes are taught by approved local high school teachers, at the high school. [12] Penn College NOW is partially funded by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-270) through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, by the support of Pennsylvania companies through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and by Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Pennsylvania College of Technology

Pennsylvania College of Technology, known informally as Penn College or locally and by most alumni as "Penn Tech", is a public college in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It is affiliated with Pennsylvania State University. As an applied technology college, the school offers certificate, associate, and baccalaureate degree programs in more than 100 fields of study. The college's student body is 64% male and 86% are full-time.

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act was first authorized by the federal government in 1984 and reauthorized in 1998, 2006 and 2018. Named for Carl D. Perkins, the act aims to increase the quality of technical education within the United States in order to help the economy.

Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development is a cabinet-level state agency in Pennsylvania. The mission of the department is to enhance investment opportunities for businesses and to improve the quality of life for residents. The department works to attract outside corporations, spur expansion of existing local employers, and foster start-ups by providing tax incentives and technical assistance. Additionally, the agency provides grant funding to community groups and local governments for projects such as revitalizing "Main Street" infrastructure, enhancing low income housing availability, or improving access to technology.

Adult education

The school offers a variety of evening classes to adults in the surrounding communities. Tuition rates are charged to the attendee.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) is a cabinet-level agency in Pennsylvania. The department's purpose is to support a sustainable and safe supply of food and agricultural products; be good stewards of the land and natural resources; promote the viability of farms; protect consumers; and safeguard the health of people, plants, animals and the environment.

Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School

Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School is located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, United States. The Capital Area School for the Arts (CASA) is a 9th to 12th grade, public charter school located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, USA. The School began as an arts magnet school, which was founded in 2001 as a partnership between the Capital Area Intermediate Unit and Open Stage of Harrisburg.
