Nugzar Logua is a painter,poet and politician from Abkhazia. He is the current chairman of the socio-political organisation Apsadgyl and a former Minister for Culture in the Government of President Bagapsh.
Logua was born on 20 April 1956 in the village of Chlou in Ochamchira District. [1] Between 1974 and 1979,he studied at the Art School in Sukhumi,and between 1982 and 1988,painting at the fine arts faculty of the State Academy for Art in Tbilisi. After his graduation,he returned to the Art School in Sukhumi,where he taught painting from 1989 until 1997. From 1997 until 2001,Logua was Chairman of the Union of Artists of Abkhazia. [2]
In 2003,Logua became an active member of Aitaira,and he joined its political council in 2004. [2] Following the election of Aitaira-supported Sergei Bagapsh as president,Logua was appointed Minister for Culture on 10 March 2005 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab. Following the re-election of Bagapsh,Logua was re-appointed in the cabinet of Prime Minister Sergei Shamba. After the death of Bagapsh in 2011,Logua did not return as Minister under Ankvab,his successor.
Logua became one of the leaders of Apsadgyl when it was transformed into a socio-political organisation in 2015. [3] On 6 October 2016,he was elected chairman by Apsadgyl's executive committee to replace Beslan Eshba who had been appointed as Vice Premier. [2]
Raul Jumkovich Khajimba is an Abkhazian politician,and served as President of Abkhazia from 25 September 2014 until 12 January 2020. He was also Chairman of the Forum for the National Unity of Abkhazia from 2010 to 2015. Khajimba previously held the offices of Vice President (2005–2009),Prime Minister (2003–2004) and Defence Minister (2002–2003). He unsuccessfully ran for president in 2004,2009 and 2011. He resigned the presidency in 2020 due to protests against him.
The prime minister of Abkhazia is the de facto head of government of the partially recognized Republic of Abkhazia,that is de jure part of Georgia.
The office of Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia was created on 17 May 1993,during the 1992–1993 war with Georgia. Empirical data nevertheless show that Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry also enacts diplomatic relations,such as the sending of diplomatic notes,with various countries across the world,including Nauru,Vanuatu,Venezuela,Nicaragua,and Syria. It is also active in managing relations with other post-Soviet de facto states such as South Ossetia,Transnistria,and the Lugansk People's Republic.
Sergei Uasyl-ipa Bagapsh was an Abkhaz politician who served as the second President of Abkhazia from 12 February 2005 until his death on 29 May 2011. He previously served as Prime Minister of Abkhazia from 1997 to 1999. He was re-elected in the 2009 presidential election. Bagapsh's term as prime minister included the 1998 war with Georgia,while he oversaw both the recognition of Abkhazia by Russia and the Russo-Georgian War during his presidency.
Sergei Shamba is a senior politician from Abkhazia. He is currently a member of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia and Chairman of United Abkhazia. He was Prime Minister of Abkhazia under President Sergei Bagapsh from 13 February 2010 until 27 September 2011. Between 1997 and 2010 he had been Minister for Foreign Affairs under both Bagapsh and his predecessor Vladislav Ardzinba,with only a half-year interruption in 2004. Shamba has twice unsuccessfully participated in presidential elections,in 2004 and 2011. He has been a staunch proponent for dialogue between Abkhazia and Georgia.
Aleksandr Zolotinskovich Ankvab is an Abkhaz politician and businessman who was the president of Abkhazia from 29 May 2011 until his resignation on 1 June 2014. He previously served as prime minister from 2005 to 2010 and as vice-president from 2010 to 2011 during the presidency of Sergei Bagapsh. He was appointed prime minister again on 23 April 2020.
United Abkhazia is a political party in Abkhazia. United Abkhazia was founded on March 25,2004,as a socio-political movement,with the specific goal of presenting a single opposition candidate for the October 2004 presidential elections.
Aitaira is a public association in Abkhazia. It is co-chaired by former Prime Minister Leonid Lakerbaia.
The Government of the Republic of Abkhazia governs the partially recognised Republic of Abkhazia.
Gulripshi District is a district of Abkhazia,one of Georgia’s breakaway republics. It corresponds to the eponymous Georgian district. Its capital is Gulripshi,the town by the same name. Until the August 2008 Battle of the Kodori Valley,the north-eastern part of Gulripshi district was part of Upper Abkhazia,the corner of Abkhazia controlled by Georgia until the Battle of the Kodori Valley during the August 2008 South Ossetia War. Upper Abkhazia was home to 1,956 of the district's 19,918 inhabitants,most of whom were ethnic Svans. Most of these fled before the battle and have not yet returned.
Sukhumi District is one of the districts of Abkhazia,one of Georgia’s two breakaway republics. It corresponds to the eponymous Georgian municipality. Its capital is Sukhumi,the town by the same name,which is also the capital of entire Abkhazia. The population of the district is 11,531 according to the 2011 census. The city of Sukhumi is a separate administrative entity with more than 60,000 inhabitants.
Presidential elections were held in Abkhazia on 3 October 2004,the first that were competitive. Election law prohibited incumbent President Vladislav Ardzinba from running for a third term and he instead backed Prime Minister Raul Khadjimba,who also enjoyed support from the Russian authorities. Khadjimba's main opponent was Sergei Bagapsh,who was supported by the two major opposition parties,United Abkhazia and Amtsakhara,and later also by Aitaira when their candidate Alexander Ankvab was barred from running in a controversial decision by the Central Election Commission.
Nugzar Nuri-ipa Ashuba is a senior politician from Abkhazia. He was Minister of Culture from 1986 until 1992 and the first Chairman of the State Repatriation Committee from 1992 until 1995. He was elected to the People's Assembly of Abkhazia in the 2002 elections,and he was elected Speaker on 3 April 2002 with 23 votes in favour,10 against and 1 abstention. Ashuba was re-elected in 2007 both as Deputy and as Speaker,but suffered a first-round loss in the 2012 elections. When President Sergei Bagapsh died in 2011,and Vice President Alexander Ankvab participated in the subsequent Presidential election,Ashuba acted as President. On 29 October 2013,he was appointed Security Council Secretary by President Alexander Ankvab to succeed Stanislav Lakoba,who had been dismissed the previous day.
Daur Tarba is the current Minister for Agriculture of Abkhazia. In the past,he has also been Chairman of United Abkhazia at a time when it was the ruling party,Vice Premier and head of the Ochamchira District.

The Government of President Alexander Ankvab was the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia from 2011 until 2014.
The Abkhazian Revolution took place in 2014,when President Aleksandr Ankvab resigned after hundreds of demonstrators stormed his office. After mass protests in the capital Sukhumi and the occupation of his office on 27 May,Ankvab fled to his hometown of Gudauta and ultimately resigned on 1 June,after previously denouncing the demonstration as an attempted coup d'état.
Konstantin Katsia is a former Chairman of the State Committee for State Property Management and Privatisation of Abkhazia.
Beslan Eshba is a vice premier of Abkhazia and the head of a sociopolitical organization Apsadgyl. Prior to his current position,he was a deputy commander in the Sukhumi battalion and an advisor to the President of Abkhazia.
Vakhtang Pipia is the current Chairman of the State Committee for State Property and Privatisation of Abkhazia in the Government of President Khajimba,and a former Vice Premier.
