Nuristan District was a district in eastern Afghanistan. [1] It was originally in Laghman Province and then was moved to the new Nuristan Province in 2001. In 2004 it was divided into Du Ab District and Nurgram District, and ceased to exist. [2]

Kāfiristān, or Kāfirstān, is a historical region that covered present-day Nuristan Province in Afghanistan and its surroundings. This historic region lies on, and mainly comprises, the basins of the rivers Alingar, Pech (Kamah), Landai Sin river and Kunar, and the intervening mountain ranges. It is bounded by the main range of the Hindu Kush on the north, Pakistan's Chitral District to the east, the Kunar Valley in the south and the Alishang River in the west.
The Nuristanis, also known as Kafiristanis, are an ethnic group native to the Nuristan Province of northeastern Afghanistan, whose languages comprise the Nuristani branch of Indo-Iranian languages. A small community of Nuristanis are also settled in the neighbouring Chitral region of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

Alingar District is located approximately 27 km from Mehtarlam, the provincial capital of Laghman Province and borders with Alishing and Dawlat Shah districts to the West, Nuristan Province to the North, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces to the East and Qarghayi and Mihtarlam districts to the South.It has about 60 villages located in four main valleys. The population is 85,600 (2006) - 70% of them Pashtun, 20% Pashai and 5% Tajik. The district center is the village of Shahi, located on 34.8347°N 70.3603°E at 915 m altitude. in the valley of the Alingar River, which crosses the district and is the main source of irrigation. The security situation is reported to be relatively stable, although there are some private disputes. The district is reported free of mines.
Dawlat Shah District is located approximately 74 km from Mehterlam, the provincial centre of Laghman Province in Afghanistan. It is a mountainous district and borders Nuristan Province to the North and North-East, Alingar District to the East, Alishing District to the South and Kapisa and Parwan provinces to the West. The population is 36,950 (2019) - 50% Tajik, 40% Pashai and 10% Pashtun. It has 60 villages. The district center is the village of Dawlat Shah, located on 34.9528°N 70.07°E at 1583 m altitude in the Hindukush mountains in the valley of the Alishing river. On 20 May 2021 it was captured by Taliban.
Chapa Dara District is situated in the western part of Kunar Province, Afghanistan and borders Nuristan Province. The population is 27,500 (2006). The district consists of a mountainous terrain. The capital of the district is Chapa Dara.
Mihtarlam, also spelled Mehtar Lam, is the sixteenth-largest city of Afghanistan. It is the capital of Laghman Province and center of Mihtarlam District. It is the only large urban settlement in the province. The town is situated in the valley formed by the Alishang and Alingar rivers, 47 km northwest of the city of Jalalabad. There is a paved road between the cities that takes approximately one hour to travel by car.
Bargi Matal District is a district of Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. It was originally in Konarha Province and then was moved to the newly created Nuristan Province in 2001.
Nurgaram District is a district of Nuristan Province in Afghanistan. It was established in the 2004 Afghanistan administrative reorganization out of parts of Nuristan District and Wama District.

Kamdesh District is a district of Nuristan Province in eastern Afghanistan, sharing a name with the town of Kamdesh. It was originally in Kunar Province and then was moved to the newly created Nuristan Province in 2001.
The Kashmir musk deer is an endangered species of musk deer native to Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan. Recent studies have shown that the species is also native to western Nepal. This species was originally described as a subspecies to the alpine musk deer, but is now classified as a separate species. The deer stand at 60 cm (2.0 ft) tall, and only males have tusks and they use them during mating season to compete for females.
Speenghar Tigers or Speenghar Region is one of eight regional first-class cricket teams in Afghanistan. The region represents the following provinces in the east of Afghanistan, to the east of the capital Kabul: Nangarhar, Laghman, Kapisa, Kunar and Nuristan. The team is named after Spīn Ghar, a mountain range in the region.

Nuristan National Park is a national park in Afghanistan announced by the Government of Afghanistan on 5 June 2020, making it the third in the country after Band-e Amir National Park and Wakhan National Park. The Park comprises the entire mountainous eastern Province of Nuristan, which borders Pakistan. According to the FAO, a detailed management plan - and "gazettement" - is still forthcoming.
