Nurul Islam (known as Nurul Islam BSc;born 3 January 1938) [1] [2] is a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the minister of expatriates' welfare and overseas employment. [3] [4] [5]
Islam was born in Chandgaon,Chittagong District. He graduated from the Chandgaon NMC Adarsha High School and the Chittagong College. [6]
Islam has written 32 books. He has established 27 educational institutions in Chittagong. He fought in the Bangladesh Liberation war and defended Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra at Kalurghat. He was elected to parliament from Chittagong-8 on 29 December 2008. He was appointed as the minister of expatriates' welfare and overseas employment on 14 July 2015. [6] Islam was also the chairman of Sanowara group but was succeeded by his first and third sons Mujibur Rahman and Zahedul Islam
Islam is married to Sanowara Begum. Together they have 5 sons and 2 daughters. [6]

The institution was founded by former member of parliament for Chittagong-8 Nurul Islam (BSc) in 1991 as a women's college. From the very beginning of its establishment to 2005 the institution would only offer Degree pass certificate course in science,arts and commerce. But from 2006 the institution offers graduation in management and from 2007 it offers graduation in accounting. Overseas employment is very important in the socio-economic context of Bangladesh. Employment abroad not only reduces the country's unemployment,but also the remittances sent by expatriates working abroad keep the wheels of the country's economy moving. On 20 December 2001,the Government of Bangladesh established a separate Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment,giving increased importance to the field of foreign employment. The purpose of forming this ministry is to ensure the welfare of expatriate workers and expand foreign employment.
