Nuwan Indika Gamage [1] [2] also spelt as Nuwandika Indika [3] [4] is a Sri Lankan para sprinter and long jumper. He served in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry which is considered as the oldest regiment in the Sri Lanka Army. [5]

Career

He claimed a silver medal in the men's long jump event at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta and Sri Lanka eventually finished the 2018 Asian Para Games on a high note with a medal tally of 14 medals and finished at 14th position. [5] Indika clinched the silver medal with a jump clearing 6.09m in his sixth attempt in the men's long jump final. [1]

He secured three gold medals at the 2019 National Para Championships which was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium and he was adjudged the men's best athlete during the competition alongside Buddhika Indrapal. [6] [7] He was also a member of the Sri Lankan squad which competed at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championship. [8] [9]

Nuwan Indika was named in Sri Lankan squad ahead of the 2021 World Para Athletics Grand Prix. [10] [11] He competed at the 2022 Indian Open National Para Athletics Championship and he claimed a silver medal in the men's 100m T44 category. [12]

He was part of the Sri Lankan contingent which took part at the 2023 World Para Athletics Grand Prix. [13] [4] He secured a silver medal in the men's 100m T44 category during the 2023 World Para Athletics Grand Prix. [3]

In October 2023, he claimed a gold medal in the men's 100m T44 category at the 2022 Asian Para Games with a new Asian Para Games record timing of 11.63 seconds. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [2] During the 2022 Asian Para Games, he also clinched a silver medal in the men's long jump T64 category and he also established a new Asian record in T64 classification in men's long jump by clearing 6.68m. Deshabandu Kobala Vithanage Damayanthi Dharsha-Kobalavithanage is a retired Sri Lankan athlete who competed in the 200 and 400 metres race events. She is the current Asian Games record holder in women's 200m event and current Asian Athletics Championships record holder in women's 400m event as well as national record holder in women's 400m. She is regarded as one of the greatest track and field athletes to have represented Sri Lanka at international level alongside her teammate Susanthika Jayasinghe. She is also regarded as the most successful Sri Lankan athlete at the Asian Games with a medal haul of four medals including three gold medals and became the first Sri Lankan female athlete to clinch three Asian Games gold medals. She represented Sri Lanka at the Olympics on three occasions in 1992, 2000 and 2004. She also represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games on four occasions in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006 as well as at the South Asian Games on four occasions.

Nadeeka Lakmali Bambarenda Liyanage is a Sri Lankan javelin thrower. She is regarded one of the finest javelin throwers in Sri Lanka with global fame. She is also attached with the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and current national record holder in women's javelin throw event.

Herath Mudiyansalage Dinesh Priyantha, also simply known as Dinesh Priyantha, is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete who competes in javelin T46 events. He also served as an important member for the Sri Lanka Army during the Sri Lankan Civil War. He was disabled after being shot at his left arm during the final stages of the war. He is the defending Paralympic champion in men's javelin throw F46 category. On 30 August 2021, he became the first ever Sri Lankan to win a gold medal at the Paralympics when he won the men's javelin throw F46 category. He is the current Paralympic and World record holder in men's javelin throw for F46 category.

Nimali Waliwarsha Konda Liyanarachchi is a Sri Lankan 800 m runner and current national record holder in women's 1500m event. She is also believed to be the first Sri Lankan woman to have competed in steeplechase events. She became the first Sri Lankan woman to complete the distance of 3000 metres in steeplechase event under 11 minutes. She won the best athlete award twice at the Presidential award ceremonies by the Sports Ministry including the Most Outstanding Sportswoman of the Year in 2015. Hetti Thanthrige Ushan Thiwanka Perera also simply known either as Ushan Thiwanka Perera or Ushan Perera is a Sri Lankan high jumper and a Sri Lankan national record holder in men's high jump as well as in men's indoor high jump.
