Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book, commonly referred to as The Sleep Book, is a children's book written by Dr. Seuss in 1962. The story centers on the activity of sleep as readers follow the journey of many different characters preparing to slip into a deep slumber. This book documents the different sleeping activities that some of the creatures join in on: Jo and Mo Redd-Zoff participate in competitive sleep talking and a group “near Finnigan Fen” enjoys group sleepwalking. It opens with a small bug, named Van Vleck, yawning. This single yawn sets off a chain reaction, effectively putting “ninety-nine zillion nine trillion and two” creatures to sleep.

The series, which combines surreal sketches and situation comedy, was broadcast by the BBC, initially on BBC2 but soon repeated on BBC1, from 1970 to 1980. Tickle On The Tum is a series of ten-minute programmes for young children produced by Granada Television and aired on the ITV network from 1984 until 1988. The series was set in the General Store and Post Office in the fictional village of Tickle-on-the-Tum. "The Funky Gibbon" is a novelty song by Bill Oddie and recorded by The Goodies. It was arranged by Tom Parker with the musical backing provided by members of the R&B band Gonzalez and released as a single in February 1975. The B-side was "Sick-Man Blues", which had previously been written by Oddie for use in the radio series I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again.

According to popular media articles regarding missing socks, people almost always report losing one sock in a pair, and hardly ever the entire pair of two socks. Socks are usually perceived to be lost immediately before, during, or immediately after doing laundry. Various explanations or theories—some scientific or pseudo-scientific and others humorous or facetious—have been proposed to show how or why single socks go missing or are perceived to have gone missing. The terms odd sock or mismatched sock may refer to the remaining "orphaned" sock in a pair where the other matching sock is missing or lost.
