Odell Hodge (born March 26, 1973) is an American former basketball player for Old Dominion University and, later, professional teams in Belgium.^[1]^[2]

High school

Hodge was most known for his potent scoring ability since his high school days at Laurel Park High School in Martinsville, Virginia.^[3] He is in the state of Virginia's Top 25 single season scoring leaders of all-time because of his 786-point season during 1991–92.^[3] He is currently second all-time in Virginia high school career points (2,530).^[4] At the time of his graduation, he was 1st alltime.

Old Dominion University

Odell Hodge established himself as one of the greatest men's basketball players in Old Dominion University history. He began his career by earning the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year in 1993.^[2] While playing for the Monarchs, Hodge compiled over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.^[2] His 2,117 points and 1,086 rebounds make him only one of four Division I men's basketball players in Virginia history to reach the 2000/1000 club (the others are Ralph Sampson, Kenny Sanders, and Jeff Cohen). In 1994 and 1997, Hodge's sophomore and redshirt senior seasons, he was named both the CAA Player of the Year and CAA Tournament MVP.^[2] He was named to the CAA's All-Defensive squad in 1997 and ranks in the CAA's top ten all-time in scoring, second to David Robinson in career blocked shots (286), and in the top five of all-time CAA rebounding.^[2] Hodge graduated in 1997 and received his degree in recreation and leisure studies.^[2] Because of Hodge's success as a basketball player at Old Dominion University, his #33 jersey was retired up in the banners of the TED Constant Convocation Center on February 12, 2010 and he was inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame.^[5]

Hodge returned to Old Dominion to become a special assistant to head coach Mike Jones in March 2024.^[6] The two played together for the Monarchs for three seasons.

Belgian First Division

Hodge did not go on to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) despite his collegiate success. He instead moved to Brussels to compete in the Belgian First Division level of professional basketball.^[1] Between 1999 and 2008, Hodge played for three different Belgian teams. His best statistical season occurred in 1999–2000 while playing for Royal Go Pass Pepinster. He averaged 15.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in 23 games played.^[1] Odell Hodge also competed in the 2000–2001 Korac Cup as a member of the Telindus Mons Hainaut for four games totaling 12 points. Though he did have moderate success throughout the other years, Hodge was never named to any all-star teams. Hodge stills lives in Belgium where he still resides with his wife, Sofie Ceyssens, and his two children Matthew and Jayden.

The Old Dominion Monarchs football program represents Old Dominion University in U.S. college football. The first iteration of the team created in 1930 was known as the William & Mary Norfolk Division Braves. Founded in 2009, the current Monarchs team competed as an FCS independent for their first two seasons. In the 2011 season, they joined the Colonial Athletic Association and added conference games to their schedule, playing there until joining the Conference USA of the FBS in 2014. The Old Dominion Monarchs baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, which is part of NCAA Division I. Old Dominion's first baseball team was fielded in 1931 as the William and Mary College – Norfolk Division Braves. ODU joined Division I in 1977. The team plays its home games at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Virginia, where it has played since 1982. ODU has won six conference tournament titles and have been to the NCAA tournament nine times. The Monarchs are coached by Chris Finwood, a native of Hampton, Virginia, who is in his eleventh year at the helm. The Monarchs have had eleven players reach the Major Leagues and two, Justin Verlander and Daniel Hudson, have played in the World Series.

Domonic Jones is an American former basketball player. He briefly played for RBC Verviers-Pepinster in Basketball League Belgium in 2011 and Karlsruhe in the ProA during the 2011–12 season before retiring. He is 6'1", 205 pounds and switched between the point guard and shooting guard positions. Jones played college basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 2003–04.

Tracy Claxton is a former basketball player who amassed 2,420 career points in 1980 while at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut. She continued to hold the girls basketball record for Connecticut until 1987. At university, Claxton held the 1981 rebound season record with the Kansas Jayhawks women's basketball team and was with Kansas when they finished third at the 1981 AIAW National Division I Basketball Championship. The following year, Claxton held the rebound season record again while also holding the points season record for 1982. After leaving Kansas to join the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs in 1983, Claxton was named the most outstanding player in the 1985 NCAA Division I championship where the 1984–85 team defeated Georgia 70–65.

Andy Van Vliet is a Belgian basketball player who plays power forward and center for Trefl Sopot in the Polish Basketball League (PLK). He played college basketball for the University of Wisconsin and the College of William & Mary.

The Royal Rivalry refers to the college rivalry games between the James Madison Dukes and the Old Dominion Monarchs of the Sun Belt Conference. It is an intra-conference match-up between two Div. I FBS public universities, James Madison University and Old Dominion University, in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
