Og Music was a small but influential independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. [1]
The label was established in 1983 by the band members of Deja Voodoo, Gerard van Herk and Tony Dewald. [1] It ceased operations in 1990.
The label started by putting out cassette-only releases, and soon began to release full vinyl LPs. As of 2007 none of these releases has ever been re-released on CD. In addition to releasing material from Deja Voodoo, the label was notable for giving early exposure to groups that would later go on to more mainstream success, such as Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet and Cowboy Junkies. Their best selling albums were the It Came from Canada compilations, which featured tracks from many Canadian indie artists of the time — in all, five such compilations were released. [1] None of the album releases made it to mainstream airplay, but regularly charted at various campus radio stations in Canada.
The label was retired when the band members of Deja Voodoo turned 30 and left the music business to pursue other careers.
The record label was named after a fictional caveman character called Og.
SPK were an Australian industrial music and noise music group formed in 1978. They were fronted by mainstay member, Graeme Revell on keyboards and percussion. In 1980 the group travelled to the United Kingdom where they issued their debut album, Information Overload Unit. In 1983 Sinan Leong joined on lead vocals. The group disbanded in 1988. Two years later Revell and Leong relocated to the United States, where Revell works as a Hollywood film score composer. According to Australian rock music historian Ian McFarlane, SPK were "at the forefront of the local post-punk, electronic/experimental movement of the late 1970s ... [their] music progressed from discordant, industrial-strength metal noise to sophisticated and restrained dance-rock with strange attributes".
Miracle Legion was an American college rock band formed in 1983 in New Haven, Connecticut. They earned modest renown, especially in their native New England region, but also in the UK, where they were feted by music media such as NME and Melody Maker.

Deja Voodoo was a Canadian garage rock band, formed by Gerard van Herk and Tony Dewald (drums), who combined 1950s horror imagery with rockabilly and country musical influences. Van Herk's guitar only had the top four strings and he sang in a deep voice, whilst Dewald's drum kit had no cymbals, which resulted in a low-treble rock style they termed "sludgeabilly." The band toured in Canada, the United States, and even Europe.

Jingo de Lunch is a German punk band from Kreuzberg, Berlin. Most members had already a solid musical background, for instance Sepp Ehrensberger had played in the Berliner cult punk rock band called Vorkriegsjugend (1984–85), and also in Zerstörte Jugend with Tom Schwoll. Yvonne Ducksworth had previously sung in Combat Not Conform. Before they gave birth to Jingo de Lunch in April 1987, with the help of Steve Hahn and Henning Menke (bass), Tom Schwoll (guitar); Ehrensberger (guitar) and Ducksworth (vocals) played together in Manson Youth.
Paranoid Visions are a punk rock band from Dublin, Ireland who formed in 1982. They broke up in 1992, had reunion shows and eventually decided to reunite. The band ran their own label, F.O.A.D., during the 1980s and 1990s. The label was based in Dublin and run by guitarist, P.A. as is the bulk of their current administration to date.
Poésie Noire are a Belgian band that rose to prominence in the mid-'80s. Their Belgian origins and tendency to develop a goth-oriented, synthetic, gloomy universe with low-pitched voices - Poésie Noire could translate by "Black/Dark Poetry" - had them categorized as EBM such as other Belgian members of the 1980s electronic music scene like À;GRUMH... or A Split-Second. However, much in the manner of various renowned Belgian EBM bands like The Neon Judgement and, to some extent, Front 242, they declared, through their music, a will to step away from the usual industrial aggressiveness that characterized Electronic body music and developed a more mainstream accessible dark pop sound that helped them to be regarded as plain new wave or Darkwave.

The music label was established in 1984 on Cartier Street by show promoter Dan Webster and Randy Boyd and released mostly records by Montreal bands, but with many exceptions, some artists who appeared on compilations including Porcelain Forehead and Direct Action, as well as most of the artists on It Came from the Pit, and solo releases by Groovy Religion and NoMeansNo.

This was their only live recording that was officially released. It was recorded over two nights at the Backstage Club in Helsinki, Finland. It was initially released by the Finland-based Gaga Goodies label in 1989 and then released a year later in Canada by Og Music.
