Ohio Amateur

The Ohio Amateur Championship hosted annually by the Ohio Golf Association (OGA) visits the a variety of courses in the state. The event is open to amateur golfers who are residents of the state of Ohio or attending a state university or college in Ohio. The first OGA event was held at the Cleveland Country Club and has been played annually since 1904 and involves four rounds of stroke play.

Charles E. "Chick" Evans Jr. was an American amateur golfer of the 1910s and 1920s. Evans, who won the 1910 Western Open, became the first amateur to win both the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in one year, a feat he achieved in 1916. Evans won the U.S. Amateur again in 1920, and was runner-up three times. Selected to the Walker Cup team in 1922, 1924, and 1928, he competed in a record 50 consecutive U.S. Amateurs in his long career. Evans achieved all of this while carrying only seven hickory-shafted clubs.

Mark Francis O'Meara is an American professional golfer. He was a tournament winner on the PGA Tour and around the world from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He spent nearly 200 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from their debut in 1986 to 2000. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

John Neuman Cook is an American professional golfer, who won eleven times on the PGA Tour and was a member of the Ryder Cup team in 1993. He was ranked in the top ten of the Official World Golf Ranking for 45 weeks in 1992 and 1993. Cook currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions and is a studio analyst on Golf Channel.

Harold William Manning was an American long-distance runner. He held the American record in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase from 1934 to 1952 and briefly held the world best in 1936. He represented the United States in the steeplechase at the 1936 Summer Olympics, placing fifth.

Harold Dewolf Paddock Jr. was a well-known amateur golfer in the northeast Ohio area, having won the Ohio Amateur Championship in 1948 and 1950, and was a member of the 1951 Walker Cup team. Paddock turned pro shortly thereafter and played professionally. Paddock lived in Aurora, Ohio from 1955 until he relocated permanently to Florida after the death of his wife, Margie. The Paddock family owned and operated the Aurora Country Club and the Moreland Hills Country Club, in the suburban Cleveland area.

Robert James Shave Jr. is an American professional golfer.

Grace Lenczyk Cronin was an American amateur golfer. She won the 1947 and 1948 Canadian Women's Amateur and the 1948 U.S. Women's Amateur. In team events, she was a member of the winning American team at the 1948 and 1950 Curtis Cup.
