The University of Lagos,popularly known as UNILAG,is a public research university located in Lagos,Nigeria and was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in the country in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba,it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba,Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos lagoon and has 802 acres of land. The University of Lagos currently admits over 9,000 undergraduate students annually and enrolls over 57,000 students.
Lagos State University,also known as LASU,is located in Ojo,with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe both towns in Lagos State,Nigeria. The university was established in 1983 by the enabling law of Lagos State,for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence;its motto being For Truth and Service. The university caters for over 35,000 students. The University was established during the Administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma,degree and post graduate programmes,including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June,2021,LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on the 2 September 2020,and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding,including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science,Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics.
The Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta, is one of the higher institutions of learning owned and run by the Federal government of Nigeria.

University of Ilorin,also known as Unilorin,is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin,Kwara State,Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August,1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan,which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower,which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country,the institution has one of the largest land areas,covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023,it was announced by the JAMB Head,Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University,for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME),making it for the 10th consecutive year.
Gombe State University (GSU) is located in Tudun Wada,an area in Shamaki Ward,Gombe,Gombe State,Nigeria. It is located in the Northern part of Nigeria. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The state university has a Chancellor and 11-members of the governing council,as well as principal officers and management staff. Abdullahi Mahadi was the first vice chancellor of the university.

His appointment became a subject of controversy when a suit marked,FHC/ABJ/CS/250/2021,challenging the process was instituted in a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory,Abuja,by a Non-governmental Organization called Tableland Society For the Oppressed (TSFO). The court in its ruling on 17 February 2022,held that the claimant (TSFO) did not have the legal right to institute the suit,while the trial judge also ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter,and consequently struck out the suit.
Bello Bala Shehu is a Nigerian academician and neurosurgeon. He was appointed as the vice chancellor of The Federal University Birnin-Kebbi (FUBK) in 2017 and previously served as the provost of the university's College of Health Sciences.
Sunday Oge Elom is a Nigerian professor of Medical Biochemistry who became the first indigenous,and third substantive Vice Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike,(AE-FUNAI) Ebonyi State,Nigeria since January 2021. He was the immediate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) before his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
