Olugbemiro Jegede is a Nigerian emeritus professor of Science Education. he was the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria. The Immediate past Secretary General, Association of African Universities (AAU) and the Chancellor of Littoral University, Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin. [1] [2] [3] [4]
He bagged his first and second degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and he obtained his Ph.D at the University College of Wales, Cardiff, UK. [5]
Olugbemiro Jegede began his academic career as a science teacher at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria in 1972. In 1974, he became a Research Assistant at the Department of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He became a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Education of the institution in 1977, lecturer II in 1979, lecturer I in 1981, senior Lecturer in 1984 and an associate Professor in 1987. [5]
In 2015, he received the Prize of Excellence by the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) at the 26th ICDE World Conference. [6] In 2023, he was also awarded the Association of African Universities (AAU) Higher Ambassador for Open and Distance Learning in Africa. [7]
Gombe State University (GSU) is located in Tudun Wada, an area in Shamaki Ward, Gombe,Gombe State, Nigeria. It is located in the Northern part of Nigeria. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The state university has a Chancellor and 11-members of the governing council, as well as principal officers and management staff. Abdullahi Mahadi was the first vice chancellor of the university.

He is a scientist who through his study on the dissemination of rabies virus in tissues, developed the use of skin biopsy for in vitro diagnosis of rabies in 1983.
Ibrahim Garba is a Nigerian geologist and university administrator. He was the former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria he was succeeded by Kabir Bala. He had also served as the vice chancellor of the Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil. Garba hails from Riruwai in Kano State.
Ahmed Tijjani Mora (OON) is a Nigerian pharmacist, academic, former Registrar and now Chairman of the Governing Council of Pharmacy Council of Nigeria. Ekundayo Adeyinka Adeyemi was a Nigerian architect and academic who was a distinguished professor of architecture at Covenant University, Ota. In 1975, Adeyemi attained professorship at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria a promotion that made him the first professor of architecture in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. He was acting vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure from December 1999 to September 2001.

Gordian Obumneme Ezekwe was a Nigerian inventor, mechanical engineer and former federal Minister of Science and Technology under Ibrahim Babangida from 1989 to 1991. As the head of the Rocket Group of the Biafran Research and Production Directorate, he was notable for supervising the invention of the Biafran rocket and building a refinery for producing fuel, kerosene and diesel during the Nigerian Civil War. It is worthy of note that as minister of science and technology in 1991, 21 years after the civil war, he didn’t forget one of the major contributors under his Research and Production team during the civil war. He recognized Engineer Romanus Okonkwo Nduagubam, a notable member of his research and production team during the war for his tremendous efforts and design/ development of a highly efficient machine that churned out tens of thousands of percussion caps which helped wage the war and sustain the biafrans, with a National award for excellence in Engineering and Technology. He was also involved in the production of the Ogbunigwe. He was a former Director of the Projects Development Agency (PRODA), first Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Agency For Science and Engineering, Infrastructure (NASENI), and founder of Science Equipment Development Institute (SEDI). Prof. Gordian Ezekwe was the first Nigerian PhD in Mechanical Engineering (1959)
Doris Bozimo is a Nigerian librarian, academician and administrator. She is a professor and former university librarian at Kashim Ibrahim Library, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna state. She was the country coordinator representing Nigeria at Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) as well as a member of the Nigerian Library Association.
Ifeoma Mabel Onyemelukwe is a Nigerian professor of French and African literature in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She writes poetry, short stories, novels, plays, literary criticism, and social criticism. She has published 27 books and 162 journals internationally and locally. She is an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), along with Prof. Tanure Ojaide and Olusegun Adeniyi.
