Olusegun Adejumo is a Nigerian visual artist, known for his female figure drawings and paintings. He is the director of One Draw Gallery and currently the president of the Guild of Professional Fine Artists Nigeria. [1]

Education, life and work

Adejumo was born on September 30, 1965, in Lagos. He attended the Yaba College of Education 1982 to 1987 and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Painting. From 1987 to 1988, he served as a Painting Assistant Lecturer at the Lagos State Polytechnic. He also worked as an illustrator at the Advertising Techniques Limited in 1988. He has participated in several exhibitions, showing with other veteran Nigerian artists Ebenezer Akinola, George Edozie and Gerald Chukwuma. [2] [3]

Felix Idubor (1928–1991) was a Nigerian sculptor from Benin City, a city with a rich history of artistic excellence. Ufuoma Isioro Onobrakpeya, is a Nigerian painter, printmaker and teacher of art. Ufuoma is a 3rd generation artist, whose grandfather Obi Omonedo Onobrakpeya was a carver. While growing up he was also art apprentice to his father Bruce Onobrakpeya for a period of 2 decades.

Abayomi Adebayo Barber was a Nigerian contemporary artist who was the mentor of the Abayomi Barber Art School in Lagos, Nigeria. He is an important modern art figure in Nigeria but less well known in the Western World. He is best known for the application of naturalism and surrealism methods in his art works. Some of his signature works include life sized busts of former Nigerian president, Murtala Mohammed and the former Oba of Ile-Ife, Adesoji Aderemi, another famous work is an oil painting of Shehu Shagari.

ErhaborOgievaEmokpae, OON, was a renowned Nigerian sculptor, muralist, graphic artist and painter who is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern arts in Nigeria. Some of his notable works include the a bronze replica of the ivory mask of Queen Idia that was used as the official emblem of the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture and a popular painting of Queen Amina. He is also responsible for the decorations on the four entrances of the National Arts Theatre, in Lagos.

Victor Ehikhamenor is a Nigerian visual artist, writer, and photographer known for his expansive works that engage with multinational cultural heritage and postcolonial socioeconomics of contemporary black lives. In 2017, he was selected to represent Nigeria at the Venice Biennale, the first time Nigeria would be represented in the event. His work has been described as representing "a symbol of resistance" to colonialism.

Josiah Akanbi "Josy" Ajiboye is a Nigerian painter, illustrator, graphic designer and sociopolitical cartoonist who worked at the Daily Times. He was a cartoonist at the Daily Times newspaper from 1971 to 2000, and his favourite artistic medium was using realism to comment on cultural, political and social issues in Nigeria. His weekly cartoon column "Josy Ajiboye on Sunday" was a popular visual form of entertainment during the military era in the country. Ajiboye is regarded among cartoon scholars as the longest serving Nigerian cartoonist and the one who brought the craft to the level of art in the country.

Joy Labinjo is a British–Nigerian artist based in London, England. Born in 1994, she is known for her large colorful figure paintings with flattened perspective that take inspiration from her collection of old family photos, found photos and historical archives. Her paintings usually explore themes of culture, identity, race and belonging through her depictions of Black individuals and families in everyday situations while also drawing from her experiences growing up as a British-Nigerian woman in the U.K.

Ebenezer Samuel Akinola, is a Nigerian artist and curator known for his work in portraiture, figurative and abstract African art. He is mostly known for his commissioned paintings of Nigerian presidents Nnamdi Azikiwe, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Olusegun Obasanjo which are displayed at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lagos. He has held several solo and joint exhibitions both in Nigeria and abroad.
