Om Prakash Agrawal is an Indian Conservationist and the founder member of several organizations related to cultural heritage and conservation such as Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), [1] Indian Council of Conservation Institute (ICCI) and the National Research Laboratory for the Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC). He is the director general of INTACH Indian Conservation Institute and a former director general of ICCI and NRLC. [2] The Government of India honoured him in 2011, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his contributions to the area of conservation. [3]

Biography

Om Prakash Agrawal, born in 1931, holds a master's degree (MSc) in chemistry. [2] He was one of the founders of the National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC), Lucknow in 1976 [4] where he served as its director till 1985.[ citation needed ] During his stint there, he joined a group led by Pupul Jayakar and founded the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) in 1984. [1] It is reported that Agrawal played a part in the formation of the Indian Conservation Institute as an INTACH unit under the aegis National Mission for Manuscripts in 1985 and, after retiring from NRLC, joined the institute as its director general, a post he holds to the day. [5] He is a former director general of the Indian Council of Conservation Institute (ICCI)[ citation needed ] and the incumbent president of the International Council of Biodeterioration of Cultural Property (ICBCP). [6] He is also a former president of Museum Association of India [7] and Indian Association for the Study of Conservation of Cultural Property. [8]

Agrawal is an honorary fellow of the Indian Association for the Study of Conservation of Cultural Property (FIASC) and the International Institute of Conservation (FIIC). [2] He also serves as a consultant to several international bodies such as UNESCO, International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), International Council of Museums (ICOM), and Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA) and as a board member of the National Research Laboratory for the Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC).[ citation needed ] He is the author [9] over 200 articles and has published 37 books, [10] [11] [12] [13] either as an author or as an editor.[ citation needed ]

Agrawal, holder of the degree of DLitt (honoris Causa), is a recipient of ICOM award in 1990 and ICCROM award in 1993. [2] [14] The Government of India included him in the Republic Day honours list, in 2011, for the civilian award of Padma Shri. [3] He is married to Usha Agrawal who is a director of programmes of the INTACH Indian Conservation Institute since 1991. [5]

IIC seeks to promote the knowledge, methods and working standards needed to protect and preserve historic and artistic works throughout the world.

It aims to enhance the field of conservation-restoration and raise awareness to the importance and fragility of cultural heritage.

Om Prakash Jain is an Indian art collector, patron and philanthropist. He is the Founder-President of the Sanskriti Pratishthan, established in 1979, which runs the Sanskriti Kendra Museums at Anandagram, Delhi.

Ravindra Singh Bisht is an Indian archaeologist, known for his scholarship on Indus valley civilization and efforts to conserve Indian national monuments. He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2013, by bestowing on him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the field of archaeology.

Ranjit Bhargava, is an Indian environmentalist, known for his endeavors towards environmental conservation and his efforts for obtaining UNESCO World Heritage Site status for the upper Ganga region. The Government of India honored him in 2010, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Golden Ark from Prince Bernard of the Netherlands and the Order of Merit of the Government of Germany.

Suhas Pandurang Sukhatme is an Indian scientist, teacher, author and a former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board of the Government of India, known for his expertise in heat transfer and energy technologies. He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2001, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.

Bal Krishen Thapar was an Indian archaeologist who served as the Director-general of the Archaeological Survey of India from 1978 to 1981. He was the founder of INTACH.

Paranandi Venkata Suryanarayana Rao is an Indian computer scientist, known for his researches in the fields of speech and script recognition and is credited with contributions for the development of TIFRAC, the first indigenously developed electronic computer in India. He is a recipient of awards such as IEEE Third Millenium Medal, Vikram Sarabhai Award, Om Prakash Bhasin Award and VASVIK Industrial Research Award. Bulu Imam is an environmental activist working for the protection of tribal culture and heritage in Jharkhand. On 12 June 2012, he received the Gandhi International Peace Award, 2011 at the House of Lords in London. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shri (2019). He is the grandson of Syed Hasan Imam, who was a leading Barrister and Judge of Calcutta High Court (1912–1916), and the President of the Indian National Congress.

Balmohan Vidyamandir was founded on June 03, 1940 by Late Shri. S.D.Rege alias “Dada” as he was fondly known amongst his students, parents and the community, was a teacher par excellence. The School was named “Balmohan Vidyamandir”. “Balmohan” being coined from the names of Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi and “Vidyamandir” meaning a temple of learning. Today, the name “Balmohan Vidyamandir” is synonymous with being the leading cultural and educational hub of the State of Maharashtra, India.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kasturi Lal Chopra</span> Indian materials physicist

Kasturi Lal Chopra was an Indian materials physicist and a former director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He was the founder of the Thin Film Laboratory at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the Microscience Laboratory at IIT, Kharagpur and held several US and Indian patents for his research findings. Author of a number of books on thin film technology, he was a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian award in the science and technology categories. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to science and engineering.

Om Prakash Gandhi is a social worker from the Indian State of Haryana dedicated to the cause of girl child education.
