Windhoek is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around 1,700 m (5,600 ft) above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. The population of Windhoek, which was 486,169 in 2023, is constantly growing due to a continued migration from other regions in Namibia.
Oshana is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Oshakati. The towns of Oshakati, Ongwediva and Ondangwa, all situated with this region, form an urban cluster with the second largest population concentration in Namibia after the capital Windhoek. As of 2020, Oshana had 113,112 registered voters.
Ohangwena is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Eenhana. Major settlements in the region are the towns Eenhana and Helao Nafidi as well as the self-governed village of Okongo and the proclaimed settlements Ongenga and Omungwelume. As of 2020, Ohangwena had 150,724 registered voters.
Tsumeb is a city of around 35,000 inhabitants and the largest town in the Oshikoto region in northern Namibia. Tsumeb is known as the "gateway to the north" of Namibia. It is the closest town to the Etosha National Park. Tsumeb used to be the regional capital of Oshikoto until 2008 when Omuthiya was proclaimed a town and the new capital. The area around Tsumeb forms its own electoral constituency and has a population of 44,113. The town is the site of a deep mine that in its heyday was known as "TCL", but has since been renamed the Ongopolo Mine.
Oshikango is a former village in northern Namibia and since 2004 part of the town of Helao Nafidi, although it still maintained its own village council for a number of years. Oshikango is still the name of the border post with Angola and the electoral constituency for this suburb. It is estimated to have grown from "a tiny cluster of shebeens around an open market into a thriving boomtown with around 5,000 to 8,000 inhabitants over a period of 10 years".
Ondangwa is a town in the Oshana Region of northern Namibia, bordering the Oshikoto Region. Ondangwa was first established as a mission station of the Finnish Missionary Society in 1890. In 1914, it became a local seat of government.
The South West Africa Territorial Force (SWATF) was an auxiliary arm of the South African Defence Force (SADF) and comprised the armed forces of South West Africa from 1977 to 1989. It emerged as a product of South Africa's political control of the territory which was granted to the former as a League of Nations mandate following World War I.
Eheke is a settlement in northern Namibia situated at the edge of the Oshana Region near Ondangwa Airport. Eheke has c. 1,150 inhabitants and is situated 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west of Ondangwa near Omagongati. Eheke was the administrative centre for Ondangwa Constituency, and after a split of this constituency in 2013 it is the centre of the Ondangwa Rural constituency.
The B1 is a national highway of Namibia, and is the country's longest and most significant road, running the length of the country from south to north. It connects Noordoewer in the south on the South African border with Oshikango in the north on the Angolan border via Namibia's capital city Windhoek.
Ongha is a village named after a very respected bird in the Ohangwena Region in the northern part of Namibia. Its people started settling in 1940 and its first headman was named Naghonda. His name is borne by Oshivambo Ongha yaNaghonda. Ongha is in a suburban area of the northern part of Namibia. Its local language is Oshikwanyama. It is situated around 725 kilometers to the north of Windhoek.
Okaku Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It had 19,262 inhabitants in 2004 and 10,384 registered voters in 2020. Its district capital is the settlement of Okaku. Okaku falls under the Ondonga Traditional Authority.
Erundu Combined School formerly known as Erundu Secondary School is a formerly white-only school on Kwame Nkrumah Street in Oshakati, situated in the Oshana region in northern Namibia.
Onamukulo is a village in the Ohangwena Region of northern Namibia. It is 225 kilometres (140 mi) north of Windhoek and belongs to Omulonga Constituency. It is situated about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north of Oshigambo village.
Oshigambo High School, also Oshigambo Senior Secondary School, is a school in Oshigambo in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia. It is situated approximately 30 km east of Ondangwa.
Helao Nafidi is a town in Ohangwena Region in northern Namibia at the border to Angola. It has been established in 2004 as an amalgamation of several villages and settlements along the main road between Oshikango and Ohangwena which are both also part of the town. Helao Nafidi has 19,375 inhabitants. The town is separated into three urban areas, Oshikango in the north, bisected by the Namibian–Angolan border, and Omafo and Ohangwena south of it, with settlements and villages in the agricultural area between them.
Mumbwenge Combined School is a school in the village of Ombalamumbwenge in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia. It is situated 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Oshigambo along the road between Eenhana and Ondangwa.
Onandjokwe State Hospital, until 2016 Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital, is the oldest hospital in the northern part of Namibia. It was built in 1911 by the Finnish Missionary Society under the leadership of Selma Rainio. The hospital was operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) via Lutheran Medical Services until 2016, when the Government of Namibia took over.
Lazarus Shinyemba Ipangelwa was a prominent Namibian businessman and former Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank (Namibia), born on 21 January 1965 in Omagongati, Oshana Region. Ipangelwa became the first local black person to head a commercial bank in Namibia when he was appointed in March 2003. He also served as the Vice President of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and he was also Deputy Governor of Bank of Namibia prior to joining FNB.
Ogongo is a settlement in the Omusati Region, in the central North of Namibia. Its neighbouring places include Outapi, Elim and Oshikuku.
Ondangwa Rural is an electoral constituency in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It had 13,613 inhabitants in 2016 and 7,682 registered voters in 2020. The administrative centre of the constituency is the settlement Eheke.
