Upendra is an Indian actor, filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and politician who worked primarily in Kannada films. He has also worked in a few Telugu films. Upendra was known for his thematic representation of Indian politics and society in his films. In 2017, He joined the political party Karnataka Pragnyavanta Janata Paksha, before quitting the party in 2018 due to internal differences and formed another party named Uttama Prajaakeeya Party (UPP), which was based on the principles of Prajakiya. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Angkor University in 2015.

Pooja is a 1975 Telugu-language film directed by Murugan-Kumaran and produced by AVM Productions. It is a remake of the 1974 Kannada film Eradu Kanasu.
Anantana Avantara is a 1989 Indian Kannada-language adult comedy film directed by and starring Kashinath. It was the debut movie of the actress Anjali in a full-fledged lead role. The movie is a light–hearted comedy about the ordeals of a newly married man. It set a trend in the comic films in Kannada and established Kashinath as a comic story teller. However, at the time of release, the movie met with several controversies primarily for the taboo subject on which the story was built. Some even considered the movie to have made a negative impact on the youngsters of that time. The movie also introduced Upendra as the lyrics writer and assistant director who also appeared as Kamadeva in one of the songs. The movie was dubbed in Telugu in the same year as Vintha Sobhanam and in Hindi as Namkeen Honeymoon in 1991. The movie was remade in Telugu in 2006 as Please Sorry Thanks.
Om, stylized as ॐ, is a 1995 Indian Kannada-language action crime film written and directed by Upendra. The film was produced by Parvathamma Rajkumar under the production company Sri Vajreshwari Combines. The film stars Shiva Rajkumar and Prema with Srishanthi, G. V. Shivanand, Sadhu Kokila in supporting roles with real-life gangsters - Bekkina Kannu Rajendra, Tanveer, Korangu Krishna and Jedaralli Krishnappa - portraying the role of gangsters in a small but important portion of the movie.
Anjada Gandu is a 1988 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film produced by B N Gangadhar under the banner of ANS Productions and written and directed by Renuka Sharma. The film stars Ravichandran and Khushbu in the lead roles along with Thoogudeepa Srinivas, Doddanna and Mukhyamantri Chandru in supporting roles. The film major part was shot in Australia as well. The film is a remake of the 1993 Bollywood film Darr. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Sadist. Preethse was the second highest grossing Kannada film of the year 2000 behind Vishnuvardhan's Yajamana. It ran for 25 weeks and became Upendra's third consecutive blockbuster after A and Upendra.
Omkara is a 2004 Indian Kannada-language crime thriller film starring Upendra and Preeti Jhangiani. The film was written and directed by Shivamani and produced by Company Films under the banner of R. S. Productions and has music by Gurukiran. Omkara was Upendra's first gangster film and was based on the connection between film industries and the Mumbai underworld mafia. The film got an all-time record opening in its first week however became an above average grosser.
Halunda Tavaru is a 1994 Indian Kannada-language drama film starring Vishnuvardhan and Sithara. It was directed by D. Rajendra Babu and produced by Vizag Raju. The music and lyrics were written and composed by Hamsalekha. It was commercially successful and completed 25 weeks in many theaters. It is based on a novel of the same name by Krishnamoorthy Puranik. The film was remade in Telugu as Puttinti Gowravam.
Anna Thangi is a 2005 Indian Kannada-language drama film starring Shiva Rajkumar and Radhika. It depicts the story of an elder brother's love and affection for younger sister. The film is directed and written by Om Sai Prakash and produced under Vijay films banner. The film, upon release, met with positive reviews and was remade into Telugu language with the title Gorintaku.
Naanu Nanna Hendthi is a 1985 Kannada-language romantic drama film directed by D. Rajendra Babu and written by K. S. Satyanarayan. The film stars V. Ravichandran, Urvashi and Leelavathi. The soundtrack and score composition was by Shankar–Ganesh and the film was produced by N. Veeraswamy. D. Rajendra Babu made his Bollywood debut in 1987, with the remake version of this movie, titled as Pyaar Karke Dekho. The song Akkipete Lakkamma was retained in the Hindi version as Haki Petai Lakamma- both sung by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. The film was a remake of Telugu film Nenu Maa Aavida. The film was also remade in Tamil as Kanna Thorakkanum Saami. The film was a box office success.
Vishwa (transl. Universe) is a 1999 Indian Kannada-language action drama film directed by Shivamani and produced by Gurubabu. The film stars Shiva Rajkumar, Ananth Nag, Suhasini Maniratnam and Suchitra Krishnamurthy. It is a remake of Rajkumar Santoshi's Hindi film Ghayal (1990). The film also had its Tamil version released in 1992 as Bharathan starring Vijaykanth and Bhanupriya and a Telugu version Gamyam starring Srikanth released in 1998.
O Nanna Nalle is a 2000 Indian Kannada-language film directed by V. Ravichandran and starring V. Ravichandran himself and Isha Koppikar. The film is the Kannada remake of the Tamil film Thulladha Manamum Thullum (1999), which itself is based on City Lights (1931).
Rajani is a 2009 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film directed by Thriller Manju and produced by Ramu for his banner Ramu Enterprises. The movie is a remake of 2008 Telugu film Krishna (2008). The film features Upendra and Aarti Chabria in the lead roles. The film's score and soundtrack is composed by Hamsalekha.
Puttintiki Raa Chelli is a 2004 Indian Telugu-language drama film directed by Kodi Ramakrishna and produced by R. S. Goud and Basavraj. It stars Arjun, Meena and Madhumitha. It was released on 14 April 2004, became a super hit at the box office and was dubbed and released in Tamil as Anbu Sagotharan with comedy track reshot with Manivannan, Senthil and Shakeela. The movie is a remake of the 2002 Kannada film Thavarige Baa Thangi. The movie became super hit at the box-office.
Manasunna Maaraju is a 2000 Indian Telugu-language drama film directed by Muthyala Subbaiah. The film stars Dr. Rajasekhar and Laya in the lead roles. It was a remake of the Malayalam film Kottaram Veettile Apputtan (1998).
Chandrika Gururaj, is an Indian playback singer, known for her works in Kannada. Apart from film songs, she has also recorded numerous devotional, bhaavageethe and folk songs. For her song "O Priyatama" in the movie Urvashi, Chandrika won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1994. Karnataka Government honoured her with the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award for her contribution to music, in 2010.
