The lyrics of the song are entirely in Latin. They come from a 12th-century text by the neo-Platonist Alain de Lile:

Omnis mundi creatura quasi liber et pictura nobis est in speculum: nostrae vitae, nostrae mortis, nostri status, nostrae sortis fidele signaculum.

[All the world's creatures, as a book and a picture, are to us as a mirror: in it our life, our death, our present condition and our passing are faithfully signified.]

Qntal German electro-medieval band

Qntal is a German "electro-medieval" band founded in 1991 by Michael Popp and Ernst Horn. They later added vocalist Syrah to complete the band. It has roots in Estampie, a band of similar genre but different style; Michael Popp and Syrah are the principal members. Horn left the group in 1999, to concentrate on his other band, Deine Lakaien. He later formed Helium Vola in 2001. Philipp Groth then joined Qntal. In 2008, singer and violist Sarah M. Newman (Mariko) left the New York-based band Unto Ashes to work with Qntal and Estampie in Germany.

Deine Lakaien is a German band project active since 1985. It is formed by the vocalist Alexander Veljanov and by the composer and multi-instrumentalist Ernst Horn. The group unites influences from dark wave with pop music and elements of avant-garde.

Helium Vola German electro-medieval band

Helium Vola is a German "electro-medieval" band founded in 2001 by Ernst Horn, who was also one of the founding members of Deine Lakaien and Qntal. Helium Vola interpret medieval lyrics in a modern, electronic soundscape. The music covers a broad range of styles from dance floor pop songs to forms adapted from classical music with an emphasis on ensemble pieces. The band is mainly a studio project. However, through the years a few live performances took place, most of them featuring the project's main vocalist Sabine Lutzenberger.

"Darkness, Darkness" is a song written by Jesse Colin Young in 1969, which has been covered by many artists. Young's band The Youngbloods released a version on their 1969 album Elephant Mountain. They released a version of the song as a single twice: in 1969, which reached #124 on the Billboard chart, and in 1970, which reached #86 on the chart.

"Meravigliosa creatura" is a song by Italian rock vocalist Gianna Nannini, written by Mara Redeghieri, vocalist at Ustmamò. The single was simultaneously on air at different radio networks on 1 January 1995, one minute after midnight, and it anticipates the release of the album Dispetto, expected on 13 February of the same year in all Europe. In 2004, it was featured on the album Perle with a new arrangement of the song, a new slow version with piano and chord instruments that will be finished as a last arrangement of February 2007, 3 years after the album Perlo was released. The final arrangement was chosen as the soundtrack for the Fiat Bravo spot, helping the piece to get in the charts. It was not released as a single, but the sales of the piece was mostly by internet download. Incredibly, the piece reaches the number one in charts, for the third time in the singer musical career; it had to pass 17 years until Gianna Nannini reached the singles top.

"Crisalide (Vola)" is a song recorded by Sammarinese singer Valentina Monetta. The song was written by Ralph Siegel and Mauro Balestri. It is best known as San Marino's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 held in Malmö, Sweden. The song competed in the second semi-final on 16 May 2013 for a spot in the final on 18 May 2013, however it failed to qualify. It finished in 11th place with 47 points, which, at the time, was San Marino's best result in the competition before they qualified for the final in 2014
