One Chicago (formerly One Chicago Square) is a skyscraper in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. It reaches 971ft and is among the tallest buildings in Chicago.
The building's site previously held a parking lot owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. [1] The Archdiocese began seeking a development partner to build a structure on the site through real estate-focused investment bank Eastdil in 2016. [2] The development was approved by the Chicago Plan Commission in 2018. [3] The building topped out in 2021. [4]
In April 2019, the developer JDL announced that the project name was changed from "One Chicago Square" to "One Chicago" to better connect the property to its address of 1 West Chicago Avenue. [5]
Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture designed the buildings. [6] The complex contains two towers connected by a central podium. [7] When completed, the taller of the two towers was to be the eighth-tallest structure in Chicago with an anticipated 78 stories, [8] although a final height was determined and a spire may have been added to the design. [9]
The project is a mixed-use development, though primarily residential, with 812 residential units. [10]
Planned retail tenants for the podium of the two towers include a Whole Foods Market and Life Time luxury athletic resort, as well as an upscale restaurant and an event center catered toward receptions for weddings at Holy Name Cathedral. [11]
The building contains 735 apartments, 77 condominiums, 55,000 sq ft of office space, 188,000 sq ft of retail space, and a Life Time Fitness center. [12]
Lakeshore East is a master-planned mixed use urban development being built by the Magellan Development Group in the Loop community area of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the northeastern part of the Loop, which, along with Illinois Center, is called the New Eastside. The development is bordered by Wacker Drive to the north, Columbus Drive to the west, Lake Shore Drive to the east, and East Randolph Street to the south. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill created the master plan for the area. The development, which had been scheduled for completion in 2011, was set for completion in 2013 by 2008. Development continued with revised plans for more buildings in 2018 and continuing construction of the Vista Tower in 2019.
The Old Chicago Main Post Office is a nine-story-tall building in downtown Chicago. The original building was designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White and built in 1921, but the structure was expanded greatly in 1932 in order to serve Chicago's great volume of postal business, swollen by the mail-order businesses of Montgomery Ward and of Sears.
The St. Regis Chicago, formerly Wanda Vista Tower, is a 101-story, 1,198 ft (365 m) supertall skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. Construction started in August 2016, and was completed in 2020. Upon completion it became the city's third-tallest building at 1,198 ft (365 m), surpassing the Aon Center. It is the tallest structure in the world designed by a woman. It forms a part of the Lakeshore East development and overlooks the Chicago River near Lake Michigan.
One Bennett Park is a skyscraper at 451 East Grand Avenue, in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. The project was first announced as the building at 451 E. Grand Ave. in July 2014, approved in December 2014, and named One Bennett Park in October 2015. The building is named for Edward H. Bennett, the Chicago architect and urban planner who coauthored the 1909 Plan of Chicago. The building topped-out in late 2018, and later opened in the spring of 2019. It is among Chicago's tallest skyscrapers.
1000M is an apartment complex in the Historic Michigan Boulevard District portion of Michigan Avenue in the Chicago Loop. Designed by Helmut Jahn and Kara Mann, it is a 74-story, 832-foot (253.6 m) tall tower located at 1000 South Michigan Avenue. The 323-unit building includes studio to four bedroom luxury apartment homes and penthouses. Construction on 1000M officially began in December 2019 and was originally expected to finish in mid-to-late 2022.
NEMA (Chicago) (also 1210 South Indiana and formerly 113 East Roosevelt or One Grant Park) is a 76-story residential skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois in the Central Station neighborhood, of the Near South Side. The tower, built by developer Crescent Heights, has 800 apartments and rises 896 feet (273.1 m) making it the city's tallest rental apartment building. NEMA is the eighth-tallest building in Chicago as of 2022 and the forty first-tallest building in the United States. It is the tallest all-rental residential building in the city.
Wolf Point East Tower is the second tallest of three buildings being developed in the Near North Side community area on the Wolf Point property at a fork in the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. The building is planned to be approximately 60 stories and 660 feet (201.2 m) tall. It will have 698 units. Although originally intended to be a mixed use building when planned in 2012 and approved in 2013, the building was reenvisioned as an apartment building in 2016. Construction began in 2017 and is currently finished.
455 North Park Drive or Loews Hotel Tower, also known as Loews North Park Drive, is a 54-story 569 ft (173.4 m) tall skyscraper located at 455 North Park Drive in Chicago, Illinois that is owned by Loews Hotels. The 52-floor building has 86,121 m2 (927,000 sq ft) of floor space. It has 400 hotel rooms, 398 rental apartments, and assorted ballrooms, bars, restaurants and parking spaces. All apartments were sold for $240.4 million. It is based on an L-shaped twelve-storey podium. It was the tallest building built in the city in 2015.
200 Amsterdam is a residential skyscraper at the intersection of Amsterdam Avenue and 69th Street on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, New York City. The lot was formerly occupied by the Lincoln Square Synagogue. The tower contains 112 condominiums.
Tribune East Tower is a 1,442 ft (439.5 m) mixed use supertall tower to be constructed on the eastern edge of the Tribune Tower property, in the Streeterville area of Chicago. The building plans were approved on May 8, 2020. When completed, the tower will be the second-tallest building in Chicago, after the Willis Tower, and one of the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. Construction is to begin in February 2024 and to be completed by September 2027.
Lakeshore East Building I is the address of the as-yet unnamed skyscraper that is part of the 2018 revision of the Lakeshore East development masterplan. The property is located immediately south of Wacker Drive and immediately west of Lake Shore Drive with a potential address of 300 North Lake Shore Drive. The property was approved as part of the Lakeshore East masterplan with a 950-foot (290 m) height.
110 North Wacker, also known as the Bank of America Tower, is a 57-floor skyscraper in Chicago located at 110 North Wacker Drive. It was developed by the Howard Hughes Corporation and Riverside Investment & Development. It was designed by Goettsch Partners with construction by Clark Construction. Structural engineering was by Thornton Tomasetti. A topping-out ceremony was held in September 2019 and the building officially opened in on October 14, 2020.

The BMO Tower, also known as 320 South Canal, is a 51-story, 727 feet (222 m) skyscraper in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, and sits directly south of the Union Station rail terminal. When completed, it became the 24th-tallest building in Chicago, and the tallest to the west of Canal Street. The building, designed by Goettsch Partners and consulted by Magnusson Klemencic Associates, will add 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) of office space to the city.
900 West Randolph Street, also known as 164 North Peoria, The Row and The Row Fulton Market, is a skyscraper in the Near West Side community area of Chicago. It is located in the Fulton Market District section of the West Loop neighborhood, amid a block of landmarked buildings. It was completed in 2023 with 43 stories, slightly shorter than the original proposal of 51 stories after a series of redesigns. It became the city's tallest building west of Halsted Street. 20% of the units are marketed as affordable housing. It was designed by Morris Adjmi Architects, and it is Chicago's first high-rise built by a Black-owned construction firm.
