An onward ticket is a proof of a booked train, bus or airline ticket originating from the country about to be entered.

An onward ticket can be required, based on the countries' entry requirements (which may or may not include the onward ticket). Many countries insist a flight ticket be held out from their country, which must be presented upon arrival at immigration. They set this requirement, so that if travellers run out of money, the country is certain that the traveller can depart. In the past, travellers would remain in a country supporting themselves by illicit employment. Without an onward ticket, a traveller may be refused entry to these countries and subsequently placed on the next plane for the destination from where he arrived.
However, there are also many states that do not operate this policy and are less strict in the application of the law of the countries' customs. To determine which do and do not, guide books, websites of the own Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the relevant embassies and/or other sources may be used.
Border controls are measures taken by a country or a bloc of countries to monitor its borders in order to regulate the movement of people, animals and goods.
A visa is a conditional authorization granted by a territory to a foreigner, allowing them to enter, remain within, or to leave that territory. Visas typically may include limits on the duration of the foreigner's stay, areas within the country they may enter, the dates they may enter, the number of permitted visits or an individual's right to work in the country in question. Visas are associated with the request for permission to enter a territory and thus are, in most countries, distinct from actual formal permission for an alien to enter and remain in the country. An electronic ticket, often called e-ticket, is the digital ticket equivalent of a paper ticket. The term is most commonly associated with airline issued tickets. Electronic ticketing for urban or rail public transport is usually referred to as travel card or transit pass. It is also used in ticketing in the entertainment industry.

A foreign national wishing to enter Canada must obtain a temporary resident visa from one of the Canadian diplomatic missions unless he or she holds a passport issued by one of the 54 eligible visa exempt countries and territories or proof of permanent residence in the United States.
Visa requirements for Bangladeshi citizens are administrative entry restrictions imposed on citizens of Bangladesh by the authorities of other countries. As of 2 July 2019, Bangladeshi citizens who hold regular or ordinary Bangladeshi passports have visa free or visa on arrival access to 39 countries and territories, ranking the Bangladeshi passport 101st in terms of travel freedom according to the Henley Passport Index. Bangladeshi citizens who hold Diplomatic passports and/or Official passports of Bangladesh have visa free or visa on arrival access to many more countries.
The visa policy of the Philippines is governed by Commonwealth Act No. 613, also known as the Philippine Immigration Act, and by subsequent legislation amending it. The Act is jointly enforced by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI). Visitors from 157 countries are permitted visa-free entry for periods ranging from 14 to 59 days.

As a sovereign state, Bangladesh requires all foreigners to obtain permission to enter its territory. Visas are issued by Bangladesh diplomatic missions located throughout the world or, if applicable, on arrival in Bangladesh. Genuine tourists; investors in Bangladesh; and business travellers can get a Visa On Arrival in Bangladesh, if travelling with an eligible passport; carrying US $500 in cash/credit; having a return/onward air ticket or international train ticket or international bus ticket; and if entering Bangladesh by air, sea or road but not on a train. The Visa On Arrival fee must be paid only in cash in US dollars or Euros when entering Bangladesh and the cost per person is US $51 or €51, with all taxes included. All foreigners that are not visa exempt require a valid Bangladeshi visa to enter Bangladesh. The maximum duration of this single entry Visa On Arrival is 30 days and it can be extended for an additional 30 days. Applicants can apply for the extension of the Visa On Arrival up to a week before visa expiry but not sooner. Visa extensions are available at the Department of Immigration and Passports located in West Agargaon, Dhaka City. Most diplomats can get a Visa On Arrival in Bangladesh if travelling with a diplomatic passport.
Visitors to East Timor must obtain a visa unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries.
Visitors to Malawi must obtain a visa from one of the Malawian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or countries eligible for visa on arrival.
Visa requirements for crew members are administrative entry restrictions imposed by countries on members of the crew during transit or turnaround.
Visa requirements for Abkhaz citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of the Abkhazia. Since Abkhazia is only recognised as a sovereign state by a handful of nations, most countries do not accept Abkhaz passports.
Visa requirements for Transnistrian citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of the Transnistria.
Visa requirements for Artsakh citizens are administrative entry restrictions by the authorities of other states placed on citizens of the Republic of Artsakh.
Many countries have entry restrictions on foreigners that go beyond the common requirement of having either a valid visa or a visa exemption. Such restrictions may be health related or impose additional documentation requirements on certain classes of people for diplomatic or political purposes.
