The Order of the Red Star (Albanian : Urdhri "Ylli i Kuq") was an award of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. [1] It was awarded to officers, non-commissioned officers, pupils and students of military schools, soldiers, and reservists of the Albanian People's Army, as well as police officers, the Voluntary Forces of Popular Self-Defense, and armed school youth. It was awarded for good leadership in time of war and for very good achievements in the war against enemies of the people in peacetime.

Contents

Many recipients took part in the Liberation of Albania and the founding of the National Liberation Movement. It was established on November 20, 1952. On January 18, 1965, it was divided into three degrees. [2]

In total there are three classes. The first class has a golden finish, second class a silver and the third a bronze.

The Albanian People's Army was the national army of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania from 1946 to 1990 and it was one of the strongest people's armies in the whole world during the Cold War era. Like the militaries of other Communist states, the UPSh was subjected to the nation's ruling party, in this case the Party of Labour of Albania. In fact, as in other Communist states, the Party considered the military to be a creation of the Party itself. The UPSh consisted of the Ground Forces, the Navy and the Air Force. The militia of the UPSh was the Voluntary Forces of Popular Self-Defense (FVVP), and affiliate military structures included the Armed School Youth (RSHA) and Civil Defense of the Republic (MCR). After the fall of communism in Albania, the UPSh was replaced by the Albanian Armed Forces.

The Order of the Heroic Exemplar was the second highest military decoration, during 2011 and 2018, awarded by the Government of the People's Republic of China, only lower than the Order of August First, and was named Heroic Exemplar Medal before 2011. The person who gained the award is called Heroic Exemplar.

The Skanderbeg Military High School, nicknamed as the Army Nursery was a military boarding school of the Albanian People's Army of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. It served to prepare youth with general military education and the necessary secondary education to attend civilian and military higher military institutions. In doing so, it served as a feeder school for the Enver Hoxha United School of Officers. By 1960 about sixty-percent of the graduates of the United School of Officers came from the Military High School.
