The Ohio State University, commonly Ohio State or OSU, is a public land-grant research university in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1870 as the state's land-grant university and the ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, the university was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. The Cowboys compiled a 9–0 record, won the Missouri Valley championship, defeated Saint Mary's in the 1946 Sugar Bowl, were ranked No. 5 in the final AP Poll, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 285 to 76.
