Osagyefo OseadeeyoDr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II (born Daniel Mensah, 27 May 1966) is a Ghanaian traditional ruler who is the Omanhene (or paramount chief) of the Dormaa traditional area (Dormaaman) in Ghana. A grand durbar of chief, dignitaries, parliamentarians, government functionaries, ministers of state, Bonohene of Ivory Coast - Nana Agyeman Adinkrah II and distinguished citizens of Dormaa were present to outdoor Osagyefo, July 25, 1999. He is the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs. [1] [2] [3]

Biography

Early life

Born on May 27, 1966, he was given the name Daniel Mensah. He ascended to the throne at the age of 33, following the passing of his uncle, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu I. [4] Osaagyefo Oseadeayo has done well for himself in academia, he attained his first degree from the university of Ghana, continued his post-graduate studies in Ghana and abroad. Osaagyefo now holds a doctorate in law unlike those with honorary doctorates. He is undoubtedly the most respected Paramount Chief in Ghana as we speak now.

However he can’t disclose where he had his postgraduate studies! His postgraduate in uk is doubtful

The chiefs and queen mothers from the four Dormaa divisions of Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality, Bomaa in the Tano South Municipality of Ahafo Region, Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipality and Dormaa-Ahenkro form the Dormaa-State under Osagyefo Osedeayo stool.

Palace

Abanpredease (Dormaahene's Palace) is the royal palace of the Omanhene of Dormaa-man. It is located in Dormaa Ahenkro, in the Bono Region of Ghana. The name Abanpredease is also otherwise ascribed to the kingdom's royal family as well. [5] There are over 200 plus towns in Bono, Ahafo and other regions that serve Abanpredease as of 2024. Interesting fact: Abranpredease is arguably the biggest palace in bono community, and it has a zoo.

Duties

As a High Court judge, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo presides over legal matters in a Fast Track High Court in Greater Accra region. Thus, he is believed to have a better understanding of human rights issues and the need to uphold them. He is the current head of the judicial committee at the National House of chiefs and oversees all their legal matters.

Interesting facts

The paramount chief of Akwamufie "Odeneho" in the eastern region happens to be the twin brother of the paramount chief Dormaa state "Oseadeayo Stool". The uncle to both stools is the famous and astute great chief Nana Ansah Sasraku I of Akwamu (succeeded by Nana Addo Panin and Nana Basua). Dormaa like Akwamu had a well organised army led by Osaagyefo which made them a force to reckon with. [6] There is a whole lot of controversies surrounding who the true Aduana piesie is, but authentic history can never be diluted as to who holds this title, Dormaahene who occupies on the "OSEADEAYO STOOL"

Officially, he has no function in the current Ghanaian political setup, but, has enormous influence on the people that constitute it. Banda Ahenkro is a town located in the west-northern of Bono region, Ghana, near the border of Ivory Coast. Its geography provided a home for numerous groups seeking shelter from across West Africa during the slave trade era. The original name of the settlement was Serminakuu meaning groups of 'grasses'. This name was changed to Banda, which is a corruption of 'Woanda' meaning 'they did not sleep'. Ancestors of Banda Ahenkro were allies of the Asante kingdom during wars and they provided a military force that virtually refused to sleep during at-war times. This is because they were predominantly Muslims and were found praying throughout the night. Later, 'woanda' was also corrupted by the Bono neighbours to become Banda. Nana Agyemang Badu I was a traditional ruler in Ghana and Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region. His official title was Dormaahene - chief of Dormaa. He was the sixth president of the National House of Chiefs and served from 1978 to 1982.. He was also the head of the Brong Ahafo regional House of Chiefs. He was the founding father of the Dormaa Secondary School also known as Dormas which is located in the heart of Dormaa Ahenkro Bono Region. Osagyefo was a close friend of the late Rtd.Ft. Lt.Jerry John Rawlings who was usually seen at the Kwafie Festival. In his private life, Osagyefo was a medical doctor.

St. Ambrose College of Education is a teacher education college in Dormaa Akwamu. The college is located in Ashanti / Brong Ahafo zone. It is one of the about 40 public colleges of education in Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. It was established in November 2009 by the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani and officially commissioned in January 2011. In the 2016–2017 academic year it became a Public College of Education. It is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast. The idea of establishing a College of Education at Dormaa Akwamu was muted by the Dormaa Akwamuhene, Barima Oppong Kyeremeh Sikafo, a former Deputy Registrar in charge of Administration of the University of Cape Coast. He pursued this dream by imploring the Catholic Archdiocese of Sunyani to make it a reality which culminated in the establishment of St. Ambrose College of Education at Dormaa Akwamu.

Kwafie Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Wenchi in the Bono region and Techiman and in the Bono East Region, which were all formally Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the month of July. The people of Dormaa, Berekum and Nsoatre also celebrate it in November/ December.
