Dormaa Ahenkro is a city and also the capital of Dormaa Traditional Area Dormaa Municipal of the Bono Region, in Ghana. [2] Dormaa Ahenkro has a historical reference for their brave warlords. Dormaa Ahenkro is the capital for the Dormaa traditional area and serves as the seat of the Paramount chief [3] Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu II, Dorma stool was elevated to paramouncy in 1935 by Sir OSIE Agyemang Prempeh 1, successor of Nana Agyeman Badu Iwho sworn allegiance to Otumfuo Sir Agyemang Prempeh as traditional demands. The successor of Nana Agyemang Badu I rebel against the Ashanti Kingdom to whom the Dormaa paramountcy owe allegiance to. In effect, the Dormaahene, Nana Agyemang Badu II was restrained from attending the funeral of the Brekumhene, Nana Amankona Diawuo II through court order on Thursday, November 23, 2023. The Dormahene expressed disappointment in the court for exercising such restrain against him during his address to his subjects at his palace. Right next to him at his palace was a table occupied by assorted alcoholic beverages which questions the credibility of the leader to be drinking in public.

Dorma currently is divided into three Districts; Dormaa Municipal Dormaa Ahenkro as its capital, Dormaa West District [4] Nkrankwanta as its capital [5] and Dormaa East District Wamfie as its capital.

Geography

Location

The municipality is situated at the western part of the Bono Region. It is bound in the North by the Jaman South district and in the east by the Dormaa East district, in the south and south-east by Asunafo and Asutifi districts respectively, in the west and south-west by Dormaa West and in the west and north-west by Ivory Coast. It is the municipal capital and is located about 80 kilometers west of the regional capital, Sunyani and also about 46.3 kilometers from Berekum.

Education

The main senior high school in the area is Dormaa Senior High School. [9] [10] [11] There is a technical training center known as Dormaa Vocational Training Institute. [12] [13] The University of Energy and Natural Resources (Dormaa campus) [14] and Presbyterian Midwifery and Nursing Center are also located within Dormaa Ahenkro. [15]

Osei Tutu II is the 16th Asantehene, enstooled on 26 April 1999. By name, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is in direct succession to the 17th-century founder of the Ashanti Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu I. The Brong-Ahafo region was a region in central Ghana. Brong-Ahafo was bordered to the north by the Black Volta river and to the east by the Lake Volta, and to the south by the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions. The capital of Brong-Ahafo is Sunyani. Aduana Football Club is a professional football club, based in Dormaa Ahenkro, Bono Region, Ghana. The club is competing in the Ghanaian Premier League. It made history by winning the Ghana Premier League at their first attempt with 53 points. It became the ninth club to win the Ghana Premier League in its 54-year-old history.

Dormaa Central Municipal District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Dormaa District on 10 March 1989; until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Dormaa East District on 1 November 2007 ; thus the remaining part has been retained as Dormaa District. However, on 28 June 2012, the southwest part of the district was split off to create Dormaa West District; while the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year to become Dormaa Central Municipal District. The municipality is located in the southwest part of Bono Region and has Dormaa Ahenkro as its capital town.

Duayaw Nkwanta is a town and the capital of Tano North Municipal District, a municipal in the Ahafo Region of Ghana. It is located close to Sunyani, the capital of Bono Region. The infrastructure of Duayaw Nkwanta is well structured. Duayaw Nkwanta has a settlement population of 27,476. This town boast of good schools such as: Boakye Tromo Senior High Technical School, Serwaa Kesse Girls Senior High School, Presbyterian Midwifery Training College among others.

Akwamu expansion in Ghana started between 1629 and 1710. The powerful king Otumfuo Ansa Sasraku I annexed the Guan and took over the traditional areas of the Kyerepon. According to Akwamu tradition, Otumfuo Ansa Sasraku I, also played an important role in the life of the King Osei Tutu I of Asante by protecting him from the Denkyera.

Nana Agyemang Badu I was a traditional ruler in Ghana and Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region. His official title was Dormaahene - chief of Dormaa. He was the sixth president of the National House of Chiefs and served from 1978 to 1982. He was the first not to be affiliated to the asante region to head the National House of Chiefs since its inception. He was also the head of the Brong Ahafo regional House of Chiefs. He was the founding father of the Dormaa Secondary School also known as Dormas which is located in the heart of Dormaa Ahenkro Bono Region. Osagyefo was a close friend of the late Rtd.Ft. Lt.Jerry John Rawlings who was usually seen at the Kwafie Festival. In his private life, Osagyefo was a medical doctor.

Dormaa Central is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Dormaa Central is located in the Dormaa Municipal District of the Bono Region of Ghana. It was created prior to the 2012 Ghanaian general election.

Osagyefo OseadeeyoDr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II is a Ghanaian traditional ruler who is the Omanhene of the Dormaa traditional area (Dormaaman) in Ghana. A grand durbar of chief, dignitaries, parliamentarians, government functionaries, ministers of state, Bonohene of Ivory coast - Nana Agyeman Adinkrah II and distinguished citizens of Dormaa were present to outdoor Osagyefo, July 25, 1999. He is the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
