Sunyani West District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. [4] [5] Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Sunyani District on 10 March 1989; until the northwest part of the district was split off to create Sunyani West District on 1 November 2007 (effectively 29 February 2008); thus the remaining part has been retained as Sunyani District (which it was later upgraded to municipal district assembly status and has been renamed as Sunyani Municipal District on that same year). The district assembly is located in the western part of Bono Region and has Odumase as its capital town.
Sunyani West is notable in Bono Region for hosting the first University of the region. The Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre attracts students from all the country which transforms Fiapre in the past ten years. Fiapre is now mainly occupied by the elite group because of the students in both Catholic University College and University of Energy and Natural Resources. Even though the University of Energy and Natural Resources is not officially declared to be in Sunyani West, by the geographic location it is part of the district with the main campus planned to be situated at Nsoatre also in the Sunyani West.
Sunyani West has four public Senior High Schools which serves students within the Bono Region and beyond. The renowned Notre Dame Girls is one of the preferred choice for girls in Ghana.

The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are currently 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.
The Upper East Region is located in northern part of Ghana and it is the third smallest of the 16 administrative regions in Ghana. Sunyani is a city and the capital of the Sunyani Municipal District and the Bono Region of Ghana. The city is located about 105 miles (169 km) southwest of Kumasi and 300 miles (480 km) away from Accra. It is the sixth largest city in the country as of the 2010 census, with a population of 75,366 people. Ethnic groups such as the Akan, Northerner, Ewe, and Ga-Adangbe resided in the city along with others. As of 2024, the current mayor of the municipality is Hon. Ansu Kumi.
Dormaa Ahenkro is a town and also the capital of Dormaa Traditional Area Dormaa Municipal of the Bono Region, in Ghana. Dormaa Ahenkro has a historical reference for their brave warlords. Dormaa Ahenkro is the capital for the Dormaa traditional area and serves as the seat of the Paramount chief Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu II.
The Catholic University College of Ghana is one of the private universities in Ghana. It is located at Fiapre, Sunyani in the Bono Region. It was granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board on 4 December 2002. The first batch of students started on 3 March 2003. The formal inauguration of the university was on 13 November 2003.
Wenchi Municipal District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Wenchi District, until the western part of the district was split off to create Tain District on 12 November 2003 ; thus the remaining part has been retained as Wenchi District. It was later elevated to municipal district assembly status and has been renamed as Wenchi Municipal District on 29 February 2008. The municipality is located in the northeast part of Bono Region and has Wenchi as its capital town.
The Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College is public tertiary health institution in the Sunyani in the Bono Region of Ghana. The is in the Sunyani Municipal District. The activities of the institution is supervised by the Ministry of Health. The University of Ghana awards a Diploma in Nursing after students from the institution have successfully completed a three-year nursing training programme. The institution is accredited by the National Accreditation Board. The Nurses and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the body which regulates the activities, curriculum and examination of the institution. The council's mandate Is enshrined under section 4(1) of N.R.C.D 117.
Damongo is a town and the capital of West Gonja Municipal. It was declared the capital of the Savannah Region on 12 February 2019. Damongo is home to Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, the paramount chief of the Gonja Kingdom. The languages spoken in Damongo include Gonja, Vagla, Hanga, Dagaare, Waale, Frafra, Kasim, Twi, Ewe, and Hausa. Damongo is renowned for hosting the prestigious Yagbon Skin.
Abesim is a town in Sunyani Municipal District in the Bono Region of Ghana. Abesim is very close to the regional capital town of the Bono Region, Sunyani. Abesim is known for the St. James Seminary and Secondary School. It is also known for the Olistar Senior High School and Abesim Senior High School. The school is a second cycle institution.
Duayaw Nkwanta is a town and the capital of Tano North Municipal District, a municipal in the Ahafo Region of Ghana. It is located close to Sunyani, the capital of Bono Region. The infrastructure of Duayaw Nkwanta is well structured. Duayaw Nkwanta has a settlement population of 27,476. This town boast of good schools such as: Boakye Tromo Senior High Technical School, Serwaa Kesse Girls Senior High School, Presbyterian Midwifery Training College among others.
Fiapre is a town in Sunyani West Municipal in the Bono Region of Ghana. Fiapre is very close to the regional capital town of the Bono Region, Sunyani.
Odumase is a small town and is the capital of Sunyani West district of the Bono Region of Ghana. The number of inhabitants is 16,542.

The Savannah Region is one of the newest regions of Ghana and yet the largest region in the country. The creation of the Region follows presentation of a petition by the Gonja Traditional Council, led by the Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa Jakpa I. Upon receiving favourable responses from all stakeholders in the Northern Region, the Brobbey Commission, a referendum was conducted on the 27th December 2018. The result was a resounding yes of 99.7%. The President of the Republic of Ghana signed and presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115 to the Yagbonwura in the Jubilee House, Accra on 12 February 2019. The launch was well attended by sons and daughters of Gonjaland including all current and past Mps, MDCEs and all appointees with Gonjaland descent. Damongo was declared the capital of the new Savannah Region. It is located in the north of the country. The Savannah Region is divided into 7 districts; Bole, Central Gonja, North Gonja, East Gonja, Sawla/Tuna/Kalba, West Gonja, North East Gonja and 7 Constituencies; Bole/Bamboi, Damongo, Daboya/Mankarigu, Salaga North, Salaga South, Sawla/Tuna/Kalba and Yapei/Kusawgu. The capital of Bole district is Bole; East Gonja municipal is Salaga; West Gonja district is Damango; Sawla Tuna Kalba district is Salwa; Central Gonja is Buipe; North Gonja is Daboya; and North East Gonja is Kpalbe
The Bono region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. It is as a result of the remainder of Brong-Ahafo region when Bono East region and Ahafo region were created. Sunyani, also known as the green city of Ghana, is the regional capital. Sunyani can pride itself as the cleanest capital city and a major conference destination.
Victor Ferkah is a Ghanaian broadcast journalist and radio personality who currently works for Sky FM (96.7) Ghana as part of his community service. Aside from radio, he works full-time as a senior administrative assistant at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani. Ferkah is also the Founder and CEO of the Ferk Relief Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Sunyani, Ghana. He is a graduate of the Catholic University College of Ghana (Fiapre) and a student of law.
Sacred Heart Senior High School (SAHESS) is a second cycle institution located in Nsoatre in the Sunyani West Municipal District in the Bono Region of Ghana. In 2022, the school emerged winners of the maiden insurance quiz competition hosted by the National Insurance Commission in the Bono Region.
Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi is a Ghanaian Catholic prelate who has served as Bishop of Sunyani since 2003. He i the current president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference. He is also the episcopal chairman of the Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre, and serves as a member of its governing council.
