Otava is a major village in Mikkeli (until 2001 Mikkelin maalaiskunta), Eastern Finland. With the population of 2000 it is the largest urban area in the surrounding areas of Mikkeli. In 1889, one of the main railways in Finland, the Savonia railway, and a sidetrack to Otava harbour were built through Otava, although trains do not stop there anymore. Also, highway 5 goes by the village.

The municipality had a population of 2,361 and covered an area of 505.11 km², of which 108.07 km² is water. The population density was 4.7 inhabitants per km². On 1 January 2007, Haukivuori was incorporated into the city of Mikkeli.

It is located in the Southern Savonia region, about 75 kilometres (47 mi) north of Mikkeli, 85 kilometres (53 mi) east of Jyväskylä and 95 kilometres (59 mi) south of Kuopio. The town has a population of 17,245 and covers an area of 1,836.22 square kilometres (708.97 sq mi) of which 266.76 km2 (103.00 sq mi) is water. The population density is 10.99 inhabitants per square kilometre (28.5/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Hankasalmi, Joroinen, Juva, Kangasniemi, Leppävirta, Mikkeli, Rautalampi and Suonenjoki.
Ristiina was a municipality of Finland. It was founded in 1649 and it was named after Kristina Stenbock, the wife of Governor General and Count Per Brahe. From the beginning of the year 2013 is a part of Mikkeli city.

It was established in the beginning of 2017, when Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences (Kyamk) and Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences (Mamk) merged. Xamk is the 5th largest university of applied sciences in Finland with 10 872 students and 914 staff members across four campuses. Xamk is jointly owned by the cities of Mikkeli, Kotka, Savonlinna and Kouvola with Mikkeli holding a majority stake (52%) since August 2019.

Visulahti is a dinosaur themed amusement park and tourist center opened in 1980 in Mikkeli, Finland, along the Lake Saimaa and the Kuopio Highway. It is similar to Tervakoski's Puuhamaa as there are no traditional amusement park equipment. It consists of three areas: Dinosauria, HyperDino and Visulahti Wax Cabinet. The Dinosauria has two different swimming pools and three large water slides. Visulahti also has accommodation and a camping site. Visulahti is owned by the Spanish Aspro Ocio S.A. through Puuharyhmä Oyj, which it acquired in 2007.
The Savonian railway is a 1,524 mm railway in Finland. Beginning in Kouvola, it connects southern Finland with the eastern regions of South Savo and North Savo via the cities of Pieksämäki, Kuopio and Iisalmi.
Pertunmaa Church is a short-towered wooden church in Pertunmaa, Finland, built according to the drawings of master builder Matti Vihonen in 1929. The church covers an area of 400 square meters and has seating for 400 people. The church was built partly from the logs of the old church of Hartola and in the same shape. The tower is built from the belfry of Hartola Church, but in a different shape. It has three floors and a lantern with a tent roof at the top. The two bells of the church were obtained from the former Russian military church in Mikkeli in 1924. The church has rounded windows at the ends and pilasters at the corners of the building, the outer ceilings have saddle ceilings. The interior is a wooden arch, the inner walls are on a log surface. The church was renovated in 1958. The altarpiece valled "Jesus blessing the children" was painted by Albert Carlsson.
Anttola is a village and a former municipality of Finland located in the modern region of Southern Savonia. Together with Mikkelin maalaiskunta, it was consolidated with the town of Mikkeli in 2001.
