Ouest Department (originally Sud-Ouest Department) was one of the original four departments of Ivory Coast. It was established in 1961, along with Centre Department, Nord Department, and Sud-Est Department. During Ouest Department's existence, departments were the first-level administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast.
Departments of Ivory Coast are currently the third-level administrative subdivision of the country. Each of the 31 second-level regions of Ivory Coast is divided into two or more departments. Each department is divided into two or more sub-prefectures, which are the fourth-level subdivisions in Ivory Coast. As of 2016, there are 108 departments of Ivory Coast.

Nawa Region is one of the 31 regions of Ivory Coast. Since its establishment in 2011, it has been one of three regions in Bas-Sassandra District. The seat of the region is Soubré and the region's population in the 2014 census was 1,053,084, making it the second-most populous region in Ivory Coast.
In 1963, Centre-Ouest Department was created by dividing Sud-Ouest Department. As a result of this division, Sud-Ouest Department was renamed Ouest Department. Using current boundaries as a reference, in 1963 Ouest Department occupied the same territory as Montagnes District.

Biankouma Department is a department of Tonkpi Region in Montagnes District, Ivory Coast. In 2014, its population was 154,300 and its seat is the settlement of Biankouma. The sub-prefectures of the department are Biankouma, Blapleu, Gbangbégouiné, Gbonné, Gouiné, Kpata, and Santa.
Danané Department is a department of Tonkpi Region in Montagnes District, Ivory Coast. In 2014, its population was 267,148 and its seat is the settlement of Danané. The sub-prefectures of the department are Daleu, Danané, Gbon-Houyé, Kouan-Houlé, Mahapleu, Séileu, and Zonneu.
Guiglo Department is a department of Cavally Region in Montagnes District, Ivory Coast. In 2014, its population was 176,688 and its seat is the settlement of Guiglo. The sub-prefectures of the department are Bédy-Goazon, Guiglo, Kaadé, and Nizahon.
