Savanes District (French : District des Savanes, [sa.van] , "Savannahs") is one of fourteen administrative districts of Ivory Coast. The district is located in the northernmost part of the country. The capital of the district is Korhogo.

Creation

Savanes District was created in a 2011 administrative reorganisation of the subdivisions of Ivory Coast. [3] The territory of the district was composed of the former Savanes Region. [1]

According to the 2021 census, Savanes District has a population of 2,159,434. [2] the population of Savanes is almost entirely muslim. [4]

Nord Department was one of the original four departments of Ivory Coast. It was established in 1961, along with Centre Department, Sud-Est Department, and Sud-Ouest Department. During Nord Department's existence, departments were the first-level administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast.

The Sokhoro Solar Power Station is a planned 52 MW (70,000 hp) solar power plant in Ivory Coast. The solar farm is under development by PFO Africa, an Ivorian subsidiary of the French conglomerate, PFO Energies. When completed, it will be the largest grid-connected solar power station in the country.
