Our Generation Speaks (OGS) is a fellowship program and startup incubator whose mission is to bring together young Israeli and Palestinian leaders through entrepreneurship. [1] OGS works in partnership with the Heller School for Social Policy and Management (Brandeis University) [2] and MassChallenge [3] to give OGS Fellows the tools to develop businesses that generate significant social and economic value in the Middle East.

Structure

OGS teaches business development, financial management, marketing strategy, and conflict-resolution to young adults aged 21–30. The fellowship runs over the course of three months in Waltham, Massachusetts, and includes daily classes taught by Brandeis University professors, one-on-one mentoring, and workshops. During the summer, the fellows work in teams to build sustainable businesses that will benefit their home communities. The fellowship operates entirely in English and provides each group of fellows with the skills and network to enact change in their communities. Each business developed through OGS receives seed funding at the end of the fellowship to aid in their launch and operations upon return to Israel and Palestine.

OGS Fellows remain connected through the OGS Alumni Organization, which plans a number of annual activities, including group trips in Israel and Palestine, meetings with local leaders, and trainings focused on career and leadership development. The organization will host an annual conference for current fellowship participants and the growing group of alumni over time. [4]

The OGS Fellows are exceptional young adults from both Israel and Palestine. OGS uses entrepreneurship to bring together people from these communities, which in turn works toward building trust and enacting social and economic change. Each year, OGS aims to maintain a 1:1 ratio of Israeli and Palestinians, as well as female and male fellows. [5]

The fellowship is fully funded for the fellows.

History

Our Gеnеrаtіоn Speaks wаѕ fоundеd by Brandeis University student Ohad Elhelo in 2014. Since its founding, OGS has received financial support and advising from оvеr fіftу independent American, Pаlеѕtіnіаn, and Iѕrаеlі dоnоrѕ whо ѕhаrе its gоаlѕ and vаluеѕ, [3] including the Kraft Family (the Kraft Group), former Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick, Hаnі Alаmі, a Palestinian telecommunications еntrерrеnеur, and Aron Ain, сhіеf еxесutіvе of Kronos Incorporated. Former Governor Deval Patrick currently serves as the Chairman of the OGS Advisory Board, alongside Robert Kraft who serves as Honorary Chairman.

Our Gеnеrаtіоn Sреаkѕ has since lаunсhеd thrее ѕtаrtuрѕ in Jеruѕаlеm & Rаmаllаh as of September 2016, and expects to launch at least three to four each year. [4] Each OGS startup receives seed funding from OGS to establish themselves in Israel and Palestine. Some of the startups have also raised funds independently of OGS. [6] [7]

In February 2017, three OGS Fellows were featured on Forbes Israel's "Forbes 30 Under 30" list for their achievements. [8]

In March 2017, Richard Behar wrote a feature-length article about OGS for Forbes, featuring OGS Alumni and network members. [7]

In May 2017, OGS was one of two winners of the SBANE Innovation Awards in the Non-profit Category. [9] [10]

She is the founder of Genius Guild, a business creation platform that uses the venture studio model to invest in Black entrepreneurs building scalable businesses that serve black communities and beyond and the founder and Board Chair of The Doonie Fund, a social platform that provides micro-investment to Black women entrepreneurs.

Palestinian hip hop

Palestinian hip hop reportedly started in 1998 with Tamer Nafar's group DAM. These Palestinian youth forged the new Palestinian musical subgenre, which blends Arabic melodies and hip hop beats. Lyrics are often sung in Arabic, Hebrew, English, and sometimes French. Since then, the new Palestinian musical subgenre has grown to include artists in Palestine, Israel, Great Britain, the United States and Canada.

Steve Blank

Steve Blank is an American entrepreneur, educator, author and speaker based in Pescadero, California.

Donna Robinson Divine is Morningstar Family Professor in Jewish Studies and Professor of Government at Smith College. She holds a B.A. from Brandeis University, 1963, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, 1971, in Political Science. Divine is interested in Comparative Politics, Middle East Politics, and Political Theory.

The Portland Trust is a British non-profit ‘action tank’ whose mission is to promote peace and stability between Israelis and Palestinians through economic development. They work with a range of partners to help develop the Palestinian private sector and relieve poverty through entrepreneurship in Israel.

Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology School in Accra, Ghana

The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) is an Africa-wide technology entrepreneur training program, seed fund, and incubator headquartered in Accra, Ghana. The three-phased institution was founded in 2008 to provide training, investment, and mentoring for aspiring technology entrepreneurs with the goal of creating globally successful companies that create wealth and jobs locally in Africa.

Suren Dutia

Suren G. Dutia is an advocate for entrepreneurship and has served as a Senior Fellow of the Kauffman Foundation from March 2011 to December 2016. He has also served as a Senior Fellow with the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Washington University in St. Louis. From February 2006 to May 2010, Dutia served as the Chief Executive Officer of TiE Global based in Silicon Valley. With 61 chapters in 17 countries, TiE is one of the largest non-profit organizations involved in fostering entrepreneurship globally. Dutia founded the San Diego chapter of TiE in 2000 and was its President for three years. With the Kauffman Foundation, Dutia has been involved in varied initiatives, including building and growing entrepreneurial ecosystems, immigration policy, and mentoring a number of grantees who contribute to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Dutia has also authored papers on topics such as Diasporas networks, AgTech, Startup boards and Founder-CEO transition planning. In addition, Dutia also serves on the Advisory Board of the Center for Digital Transformation, University of California, Irvine.

Jane Chen

Jane Marie Chen is the co-founder of Embrace, a social enterprise startup that aims to help the 15 million premature and low birth-weight babies born every year, through a low-cost infant warmer, that gives premature and low-birth-weight infants a better chance at survival. A premature baby lacks the ability to regulate its own body temperature. The Embrace Warmer uses a phase change material incorporated into a sleeping bag design to regulate the temperature of these babies, without the need for a constant supply of electricity. The device is being used in clinic and hospital settings around the world, with India as its primary market.

Rahul Panicker

Rahul Alex Panicker is a technology leader and entrepreneur, who is currently leading research as Chief Innovation Officer at the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a nonprofit research institute developing AI solutions for social good. He is best known as President and Co-founder of Embrace Innovations, and Embrace, a social enterprise startup that aims to help premature and low-birth-weight babies, through a low-cost infant warmer.

OurCrowd is an investment platform built for accredited investors and institutions to invest in startups, early stage companies and venture funds. Based in Jerusalem, the company launched in February 2013, with overseas branches in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Spain and Singapore.

Axilor Ventures is a new generation platform for supporting early stage entrepreneurs. Founded by S.D. Shibulal, Kris Gopalakrishnan, Srinath Batni, Professor Tarun Khanna and Ganapathy Venugopal. Through its programs which include Accelerator, Scale-up and Early Stage Funding, Axilor aims to support early stage entrepreneurs and improve their odds of success. It is currently based out of India with its headquarters in Bangalore.

Ohad Elhelo is an Israeli social entrepreneur and public speaker. In 2014, Elhelo founded Our Generation Speaks and has since served as executive director. In 2017, he co-founded a technology productivity company called Delegate.

Michael Li

Tianhui Michael Li is an American data scientist, entrepreneur, and the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Data Incubator, a data science training and placement company.

Yadin B. Kaufmann is an Israeli-American technology investor, social entrepreneur and writer.

YEDI facilitates collaboration between students, alumni, and academic and business leaders. The organization was founded in 2013 by businessman Dr. Marat Ressin, a native of Russia with close ties to the Jewish community in Canada.
