Shotacon, abbreviated from Shōtarō complex, is a Japanese slang describing an attraction to young boys. It refers to a genre of manga and anime wherein prepubescent or pubescent male characters are depicted in a suggestive or erotic manner, whether in the obvious role of object of attraction, or the less apparent role of "subject". In some stories, the young male character is paired with a male, usually in a homoerotic manner. In others, he is paired with a female, which the general community would call "straight shota" or oneshota (おねショタ), a portmanteau of onē-san and shota. A cutoff of "about 15" has been suggested as the dividing line between shotacon and shōnen-ai. It can also apply to post-pubescent characters with neotenic features that would make them appear to be younger than they are. The phrase is a reference to the young male character Shōtarō (正太郎) from Tetsujin 28-go. The equivalent term for attraction to young girls is lolicon.
Desire is a yaoi manga written by Maki Kazumi and illustrated by Yukine Honami. It was published in October 2004 by Digital Manga Publishing, Inc. A novelisation, called Desire: Dangerous Feelings was also produced.
Princess Princess is the title of a fictional series written and illustrated by Japanese author Mikiyo Tsuda about the lives of three high school boys and the school they attend. The series is contained within multiple media pieces which began as a manga first serialized in the manga magazine Wings starting in 2002. After the first manga series ended, a sequel entitled Princess Princess + started serialization in the same magazine in May 2006, and finished in January 2007. An anime has since been adapted from the manga and began airing in Japan on April 5, 2006, produced by the Japanese animation studio, Studio Deen. A live action adaptation called Princess Princess D aired in Japan from June 28, 2006 to September 13, 2006. Finally, a visual novel video game for the PlayStation 2 based on the series was released on October 26, 2006 in Japan.

Embracing Love is a yaoi manga by Youka Nitta, about two male pornographic actors who fall in love as they attempt to break into mainstream acting. It is published in English by Be Beautiful Manga. In addition to the manga, a drama CD and OVA have been released. Nitta chose to use the pornography industry as a backdrop because she felt it had potential, and she felt there was a parallel between how the pornography industry is marginalised in Japan and how boys love manga is marginalised within the manga industry.

Future Lovers is a yaoi manga series by Saika Kunieda. The first volume was published in Japan under the Japanese title "未来の記憶" in 2002 by Biblos. The second volume was published in Japan under the Japanese title "風の行方" in 2004 by Biblos. Libre Shuppan reprinted both volumes into one complete collected volume titled "未来の記憶/風の行方" in 2008. Aurora Publishing licensed the series for an English language release in North America in 2008. Aurora released both volumes under their yaoi manga imprint "Deux Press" as a two volume series under the title Future Lovers. The first volume was published in September 2008, and the second volume was published in March 2009. The English release contains an unrelated story by the same author, Winter Rabbit.
Missions of Love is a shōjo manga series by Ema Tōyama. The plot centers around a junior high student named Yukina Himuro. While she is cold and withdrawn, she finds a big secret about Shigure, a guy who is hugely popular with the girls. In order to keep the secret hidden, Yukina orders him to do "missions" with her that involve romance. Yukina feels that the missions will help her novels, but as time passes she begins to question if it is really love developing. Missions of Love appeared as a serial in the monthly manga magazine Nakayoshi from June 10, 2009 to June 3, 2015. Kodansha published the chapters in nineteen bound volumes, from October 6, 2009 to June 12, 2015. In addition to the manga, a drama CD was also released in Japan in 2012. In 2018, a live action film adaptation was released, following a mini manga sequel in Nakayoshi to help promote it.
