Over My Dead Body, 1893, is a painting by Ramon Casas, in the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona.
At the beginning of the 1890s, Ramon Casas began painting interior scenes with a female figure always present. Over My Dead Body, one of the first of the series, Casas paints a young woman standing between two doorways . Her posture appears to be looking out at someone and preventing them from entering the room. [1] The complexity of the open doors at the far end of the room contribute a mysterious quality to the painting, allowing the viewer to question where this young woman really is. [2]
The painting's original title was replaced for some time with "Summer Study." But Miguel Utrillo changed the title of the painting back to "Over My Dead Body" after a solo exhibition at the Sala Pares in May 1900. The title of the work is listed in Pel & Ploma as "Summer Study." [3]

Modernisme, also known as Catalan modernism and Catalan art nouveau, is the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the search of a new entitlement of Catalan culture, one of the most predominant cultures within Spain. Nowadays, it is considered a movement based on the cultural revindication of a Catalan identity. Its main form of expression was Modernista architecture, but it also encompassed many other arts, such as painting and sculpture, and especially the design and the decorative arts, which were particularly important, especially in their role as support to architecture. Modernisme was also a literary movement.
Lluís Domènech i Montaner was a Catalan architect who was very much involved in and influential for the Catalan Modernisme català, the Art Nouveau/Jugendstil movement. He was also a Catalan politician.
Joaquín Torres García was a Uruguayan-Spanish artist, sculptor, muralist, novelist, writer, teacher, and theorist born in Montevideo, Uruguay. As an adolescent emigrated to Catalunya, Spain, where he began his career as an artist. He lived and worked primarily in Spain, and was also active in the United States, Italy, France, and Uruguay. Torres-García is known for creating the prominent art movements Modern Classicism and Universal Constructivism.
Ramon Casas i Carbó was a Spanish artist. Living through a turbulent time in the history of his native Barcelona, he was known as a portraitist, sketching and painting the intellectual, economic, and political elite of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, and beyond. He was also known for his paintings of crowd scenes ranging from the audience at a bullfight to the assembly for an execution to rioters in the Barcelona streets. Also a graphic designer, his posters and postcards helped to define the Catalan art movement known as modernisme.
The Casa Lleó Morera is a building designed by noted modernisme architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, located at Passeig de Gràcia 35 in the Eixample district of Barcelona. In 1902 Francesca Morera assigned Lluís Domènech i Montaner to remodel ancient "casa Rocamora", built in 1864. She died in 1904, and the building was named after her son, Albert Lleó i Morera. The building is located on the corner of Carrer del Consell de Cent, and is one of the three important buildings of Barcelona's Illa de la Discòrdia, and it is the only building of the block awarded Barcelona's town council's Arts Building Annual Award, obtained in 1906. The building lost some of its most representative elements, such as the tempietto on its top and the ground floor and mezzanine's architectural sculpture. The building is also known as the residence of Cuban-Catalan photographer Pau Audouard.
