Owuraku Ampofo is a Ghanaian sports journalist and writer known for his use of data in journalism. [1] [2] [3] [4] He is former presenter of Prime Sport on Joy News and the current sports anchor at TV3 Ghana.

Early life and education

Owuraku Ampofo was born on October 9, 1996 [5] in Ghana. He is Akan and grew up in Koforidua, a city in the Eastern Region of Ghana. From 2009 to 2011, Ampofo attended Faith Montessori School for his general studies. He studied journalism at Ashesi University. [6] He earned a Computer Science bachelor's degree from the esteemed Ashesi University. He is also an alumnus of Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School where he had his high school education. [7]

Career

During his time in college in 2018, Owuraku started out as a football player, competing for Koans FC in the Ashesi League's third division. Before interning and starting his full-time job as a sports journalist at Joy FM (Ghana), he started off writing for sports start-ups like the Ghana Fans blog, Sportskeeda, [8] and others. In 2017, he began working there full-time. [9] Owuraku resigned from his role as host of Prime Sport at Joy News in 2022 [10] to join TV3 Ghana the same year. [11]

Recognition

In 2019, he was one of 100 invitees to a conference supported by the British Council. [12] He was named the Ubora Sports Man of the Year during his time at Ashesi University. [13] In 2021, Owuraku was announced as one of Avance Media's 50 Most Influential Young Ghanaians. [14]

In 2022, Owuraku Ampofo was named sports influencer of the year 2022 at the Pulse Influencer Awards. [15]

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is a Ghanaian politician and a former Member of Parliament and former District Chief Executive for the Fanteakwa North district of the Eastern Region of Ghana. He is also a former Eastern Regional Minister and a former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress. Ampofo is also a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development. He is the former national Chairman for the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

The Archbishop Porter Girls' Senior High School is a Catholic senior secondary school for girls, located in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. The female second cycle institution operates within the Ghana Public Education System. It was founded in 1965 by Rev. Kodjo Amissah with the name St. Louis Secondary School, which was later changed to Archbishop Porter Girls. It welcomes girls of all religious denominations. The school is situated on a hill in Fijai, Takoradi and it has come to be known as the "Hill of Tranquility" for its peaceful and serene academic atmosphere.

Joy FM is a privately owned radio station in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The station is owned and run by the media group company Multimedia Group Limited. It is arguably the leading radio station in Ghana that broadcasts in the English language. Established in 1995 by Kwasi Twum, the founder of Multimedia Group Limited, Joy FM became the first private radio station to be licensed in Ghana.
