Phanithi Prakash Babu (born 27 September 1963) is an Indian academic and professor. He is serving as vice chancellor of the Central University of Pondicherry. [2] [3] He previously also served as the vice chancellor of the Yogi Vemana University. [4] He was professor at the department of biotechnology and bioinformatics at University of Hyderabad. His research primarily focuses on neurosciences,with a particular emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases. [5]
He was born on 27 September 1963 in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He did bachelor of science (BSc) in zoology from Nagarjuna University and master of science (MSc) in zoology from Andhra University and then doctor of philosophy (PhD) from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Hyderabad in 1992. [6]
He began his career as a research fellow at the school of life sciences,University of Hyderabad (1987–1992),where he conducted doctoral research,before serving as a lecturer in the department of Zoology at Sri Venkateswara University,Tirupati (1992–1996). He then joined the University of Hyderabad as a lecturer in the department of animal sciences (1996–2000),advancing to reader in the same department (2001–2006),and later becoming a senior professor in the department of biotechnology and bioinformatics (2006–present),a role he continues to hold. [7] He previously served as the vice chancellor at the Yogi Vemana University. He currently serves as the vice chancellor of the central university of Pudducherry. [8]
He is recipient of B P Pande memorial oration award by the Indian Society for Parasitology (2009) and Tulsabai Somani educational trust award by the Indian Academy of Neuroscience (2002). [9] [6]
