He was a notorious and aggressive campaigner often defying the party lines and the CM, earning him the name "Negamam Napolean". This name was also used in the film Amaidhi Padai.

Varadharaj Jayaraman is an Indian politician and a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Pollachi constituency. He was previously selected from Pollachi constituency (2001-2006)(2006-2011)respectively and elected from constituency from (2011-2016) and (2016-2021). He was Minister in the 2nd Jayalalithaa government as Minister for Industries, Environment, Pollution Control (2001-2002),and again as Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Co-operative (2004-2006). He is one among the 3 MLAs from ADMK to record winning 5 times consecutively in assembly elections from 2001 on-wards from Pollachi and Udumalpet constituencies where others being O.Pannerselvam and K.P.Anbazhagan. Jayaraman also won the recent Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections held in the month May, 2021 from the same constituency.

K. Pitchandi, also known as K. Pichandi, is an Indian politician and the current Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. A. K. Aranganathan only who defeated K. Pitchandi in 2011. Pitchandi continues to be the speaker. His record was broken in 2011 - 2016.

D. Jayakumar is an Indian politician and was a Member of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly until his resignation on 29 September 2012. In the TN 2021 Election for Royapuram constituency, he was defeated by dmk candidate. He had represented Royapuram five times - 1991, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016.

P. K. Sekar Babu is an Indian politician and Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. Currently, he is elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Harbour as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 2016 and 2021 elections. He won his first two elections from R k Nagar constituency as an AIADMK candidate.

The Fifteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 16 May 2016 for the 232 seats of the Legislative Assembly in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The AIADMK under J. Jayalalithaa won the elections and became the first ruling party to be re-elected in Tamil Nadu since 1984, though with a simple majority. The DMK won half of the seats it contested but its allies performed poorly; notably, the Indian National Congress won 16% of the seats they contested, and the alliance lost due to its poor performance. The votes were counted on 19 May 2016. In the previous election in 2011, AIADMK, under the leadership of Jayalalithaa, won a thumping majority and formed the government, while DMDK chief Vijayakanth served as the Leader of Opposition until January 2016. This was the last election that J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi contested, as they both died in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
