PAETEC Headquarters was a building proposed and approved for construction in Rochester, New York. It was to serve as the new headquarters for the Rochester-based telecommunications company, PAETEC Holding Corp. Its original proposed height was 40 floors, with a LEED-certified rooftop garden and was originally slated for completion in 2012. The proposed PAETEC building would have sat on the southeast corner of the intersection of Main Street and Clinton Avenue, taking advantage of both the refreshed (abated) skeletal structure of the former Seneca Building and adjacency to an enormous underground parking facility (1600+spaces) and truck tunnel. In addition to reusing the Seneca structure, PAETEC revealed plans at an RDDC luncheon in June 2010 that detailed the construction of a semi-transparent NOC on the north side of the building with viewing lines for pedestrians into its command center, additional office space on the south side of the structure, as well as retail on the first floor. The new downtown headquarters for PAETEC was to be part of a redevelopment plan, with the state of New York using a $40 million state grant to clear the Midtown site. [2] [3]

Midtown Plaza

It was announced on October 16, 2007 that Midtown Plaza will be knocked down to make way for the new PAETEC headquarters via eminent domain. Midtown Plaza was the first urban indoor mall in the United States. [4]

Fate

With the economic recession of 2008–2009, PAETEC scaled down their plans significantly, first to a much smaller new building, and then to a simple re-use of the existing Seneca Building. With PAETEC's acquisition by Windstream Communications, the new plan involved only two-thirds of the Seneca Building; the city then began considering options for the corner parcel on which the Tower would have been built. The corner was sold to Pike Construction who built a new headquarters for the Democrat and Chronicle on the site. The building, completed in 2016 is three stories like the current Seneca Building which currently houses offices for PAETEC's successor Windstream.

PAETEC Holding Corporation was a Fortune 1000 telecommunications company headquartered in Perinton, New York, United States. It was founded as the private company PaeTec Communications, Inc. in 1998 by Arunas A. Chesonis. In 2007 it merged with US LEC and then Cavalier Telephone Company and became a publicly traded company, and in 2011 it was acquired by Windstream Communications.

Phoenix Plaza is a mixed use office complex located in midtown Phoenix, Arizona. It was built between 1988 and 1990 at a cost of US$158 million. There is 1,600,000 square feet (150,000 m2) of office space plus 225 hotel rooms. Phoenix Plaza has three hi-rise office buildings, a large parking garage and a hotel tower. Two distinct design concepts can be seen. The façades of CenturyLink Tower, the parking structure and Hilton Suites are colored in the late 1980s design trend of combining the pastel hues of “dusty rose” with turquoise. The building is designed by Foster and Partners and will contain 430 units on 68 floors and 2,050,000 square feet (190,000 m2) of floor space. Despite only having 68 floors, it is planned to be 1,270 feet (390 m) tall, 34 feet (10 m) shorter than the Empire State Building two blocks east. Located opposite Pennsylvania Station, a major transit hub for the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, Amtrak and the New York City Subway, the building will include several subway entrances, a new concourse, and a passageway that will link Penn Station with the 34th Street–Herald Square station and the 33rd Street terminal of the PATH train. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024, with completion expected at the end of the 2020s.

Manhattan West is a 7-million-square-foot (650,000 m2) mixed-use development by Brookfield Properties, built as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment. The project spans 8-acres and features four office towers, one boutique hotel, one residential building, 225,000 square feet (20,900 m2) of retail space and a 2.5-acre public plaza. The project was built on a platform over Penn Station storage tracks along Ninth Avenue between 32nd and 33rd Streets.

Vlastimil Koubek was a Czech American architect who designed more than 100 buildings, most of them in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. When he died, he had designed buildings worth more than $2 billion. Most of his work is Modernist in style, although he developed a few structures in other vernaculars. He created the site plan for the redevelopment of Rosslyn, Virginia, and his Ames Center anchored the area's economic recovery. He also designed the World Building in Silver Spring, Maryland, which sparked redevelopment of that town's downtown and the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C., amongst many other buildings. In 1985, Washingtonian magazine considered him to be one of 20 people "who in the past 20 years had the greatest impact on the way we live and who forever altered the look of Washington." In 1988, The Washington Post newspaper said his Willard Hotel renovation was one of 28 projects in the area which made a signal contribution to the "feel" and look of Washington, D.C.
