The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria Rivers State Branch (PMAN Rivers State Branch) is an organization existing to promote the music profession and oversee the welfare of musicians in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is the state affiliate of the national Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN). Its state headquarters are in Port Harcourt.

History

Founded in 1995, Geraldo Pino, a musician from Enugu led the association until 2004. [1] He was succeeded by Muma Gee who became the first elected female chairman, but was later "impeached for misappropriation of funds and lack of accountability." [2] In 2010, Lexy M assumed leadership of the association. [3] He served until 2013 when succeeded by Lady IB, the second woman to hold the position. [4]

Port Harcourt is the capital and largest city of Rivers State, Nigeria. It is the fifth-largest city in Nigeria after Lagos, Kano, Ibadan and Benin City. Christy Essien-Igbokwe Nigerian actress and singer

Christy Uduak Essien-Igbokwe, MFR was a Nigerian musician and actress. Called "Nigeria's Lady of Songs", she was known for her songs "Seun Rere" Tete Nula, Ife, Hear the Call and Give me a Chance. She was the first female president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the chairwoman and managing director of Soul Train Entertainment.

The music of Port Harcourt, a city of Rivers State located to the south of Nigeria, is a thriving one encompassing both native African and foreign-influenced genres. Port Harcourt plays host to numerous radio stations, prominent recording studios, such as the Street Rhymes Studios and other music institutions. As a state capital, Port Harcourt boasts of one of the liveliest club scenes in the country as well as music venues, bars and restaurants. At present time, hip hop, pop, highlife and reggae are most popular music styles among young people in the city.

Muma Gee Nigerian singer and songwriter

Gift Iyumame Eke, professionally known as Muma Gee, meaning "do good Gift", is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, actress, businesswoman, fashion designer, television personality and politician. She was born, raised, and resides in Port Harcourt. Uwame's first taste of stardom came through her song "Kade", which became the title track of her first official album, released in 2006. The single's accompanying music video directed by Wudi Awa, received five nominations, including two from the AMEN Awards and one each from the Nigerian Music Video Awards, the Headies Awards, and the Sound City Music Video Awards.

Street Rhymes Studios

Street Rhymes Studios is a Port Harcourt-based independent, sound recording studio founded by singer and record producer Slim Burna, after he quit working for record label Grafton Records in late 2008. The studio operates out of Burna's residential building, 10 Railway Close, in D-line. Notable musical acts who have used the facility include award-winning Nigerian rapper M-Trill and pop singer-songwriter Muma Gee. Others are, Bukwild Da Ikwerrian, Knowledge, DJ Joenel, Zubillionaire, Spaceman, and Young Stunna.

Port Harcourt is the largest city in Rivers State, and the second largest commercial city in Nigeria.

The Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, also referred to as Rivers PDP, is the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is currently chaired by businessman and Philanthropist Felix Obuah. Prominent public figures including the late Nigerian senator Ibiapuye Martyns-Yellowe and former governor and Committee Chair on State Creation Peter Odili are products of Rivers PDP.

Gerald Emeka Pine, better known as Geraldo Pino, was a Sierra Leonean Nigerian musician. He was one of the early pioneers of modern African pop music.

Joseph Atubokiki Ajienka is a Nigerian professor of Petroleum engineering, educational administrator and 7th vice chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Under his leadership, the University of Port Harcourt was ranked 6th in Africa and 1st in Nigeria in Research Influence by Times Higher Education (THE).

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, also known as the Chief Judge of the High Court of Justice, is the title and office of the head of the judicial branch of Rivers State. The Chief Judge presides over the state's High Court, and is usually the most senior judge of that court.

Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma was a Nigerian politician and lawyer from Rivers State, a long-term member People's Democratic Party. He was the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the state. Between 2000 and 2002 Aguma worked as Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, and also chaired the Bar from 2006 to 2008. On 10 July 2015, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee conferred the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on him alongside 20 others, to be sworn in on 21 September 2015.

Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria is an organisation founded by Christy Essien-Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun in 1984 to guide, protect and promote the interests of musicians in the west African nation of Nigeria. Authorized by the government of Nigeria under the Trade Unions Act, the organisation also has the responsibility to regulate the practice of music profession in the country.

Ibitoru I.B. Green, better known as Lady IB, is a singer from Bonny, Rivers State, Nigeria. She was elected Chair of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria Rivers State Branch in 2013, and is the second woman, after Muma Gee, to hold the position. After serving for about a year, she was re-elected to the same office for a second term. She has worked with artists such as Daniel Wilson, King Sunny Brown, Don Bruce, Geraldo Pino and Prince David Bull, among others.

Ukel Oyaghiri is a lawyer and politician who has served as the Rivers State Commissioner of Women Affairs since 2015. She replaced Joeba West who had served in the Executive Council under former governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Kelechi Nwogu

Kelechi Nwogu is a Nigerian politician, a state legislator and member of the 7th, 8th and 9th Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Omuma State Constituency. Nwoguis a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
