Phoolan Devi, popularly known as the Bandit Queen, was an Indian dacoit (bandit) who became a politician, serving as a member of parliament until her assassination. She was a woman of the Mallah subcaste who grew up in poverty in a village in the state of Uttar Pradesh, where her family was on the losing side of a land dispute which caused them many problems. After being married off at the age of eleven and being sexually abused by various people, she joined a gang of dacoits. Her gang robbed higher-caste villages and held up trains and vehicles. When she punished her rapists and evaded capture by the authorities, she became a heroine to the Other Backward Classes who saw her as a Robin Hood figure. Phoolan Devi was charged in absentia for the 1981 Behmai massacre, in which twenty Thakur men were executed, allegedly on her command. After this event, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh resigned, and calls to apprehend her were amplified. She surrendered two years later in a carefully negotiated settlement and spent eleven years in Gwalior prison, awaiting trial.
Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay was an Indian Bengali-language writer. He was actively involved with Bengali cinema as well as Bollywood. The creator of the Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Sharadindu composed stories of a wide array of varieties including: novels, short stories, crime and detective stories, plays and screenplays. He wrote historical fiction like Kaler Mandira, Gourmollar, Tumi Sandhyar Megh, Tungabhadrar Teere, Chuya-Chandan, Maru O Sangha, Sadashib series and stories of the unnatural with the recurring character Baroda. Besides, he composed many songs and poems.
Robi Ghosh was an Indian actor known for his work in Bengali cinema. He is known for his comic appeal, though his versatile acting talent brought him success in various kinds of roles. He is probably one of the earliest character actors of Bengali cinema who focused mainly on method acting. Megastar in Bengali film Industry. He participated in the Berlin Film Festival as the lead actor of Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne in the role of Bagha Byne, which was one of his most memorable roles. Thereafter, he was a regular member of Satyajit Ray films over the years. Till date, he is remembered for his comic roles in different movies. Robi Ghosh was a renowned actor in Bengali theatre and TV as well. He also played a character, Badridas, in the episode Amrit ki Maut in Byomkesh Bakshi, broadcast by Doordarshan.
Tapan Sinha was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. He was primarily a Bengali filmmaker who worked both in Hindi cinema and Bengali cinema, directing films like Kabuliwala (1957), Louha-Kapat, Sagina Mahato (1970), Apanjan (1968), Kshudhita Pashan and children's film Safed Haathi (1978) and Aaj Ka Robinhood. Sinha started his career in 1946, as a sound engineer with New Theatres film production house in Kolkata, then in 1950 left for England where he worked at Pinewood Studios for next two years, before returning home to start his six decade long career in Indian cinema, making films in Bengali, Hindi and Oriya languages, straddling genres from social realism, family drama, labor rights, to children's fantasy films. He was one of the acclaimed filmmakers of Parallel Cinema movement of India.

Shubho Mahurat is a 2003 Indian Bengali mystery thriller film directed by Rituparno Ghosh. The film is based on Agatha Christie's 1962 Miss Marple detective novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side. Its ensemble cast includes Sharmila Tagore, Rakhee Gulzar, Nandita Das, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Anindya Chatterjee, Moumita Gupta and Rajesh Sharma. It won two National Film awards, those of Best Feature film in Bengali and Best Supporting Actress for Rakhee.
Haradhan Bandopadhyay was a Bengali Indian actor of television and films. He made his debut in the 1948 Bengali film Devdut, directed by Atanu Bandopadhyay. He worked with some of the most prominent directors of Bengali cinema, like Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen.

Nadi Theke Sagare is a 1978 Bengali feature film directed by Arabinda Mukhopadhyay. The film was written by Prasanta Chowdhury. The screenplay was written by Sunil Gangopadhyay and Arabinda Mukhopadhyay. It revolves around a prostitute who struggles to get her daughter married to a decent man. It stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy, Debashree Roy, Mithun Chakraborty, Chhaya Devi, Rabi Ghosh and Anup Kumar. Debashree Roy was credited as Rumki Roy in the film. The music of the film was composed by Hemanta Mukherjee with lyrics penned by Pulak Bandyopadhyay and Arabinda Mukhopadhyay.
Shiulibari is a 1962 Bengali film starring Uttam Kumar and Arundhati Devi. The film was released under the banner if Movietalk Private Limited It was a drama movie, directed by Pijush Bose and the screenplay was done by the legendary Tapan Sinha. Story was written by Subodh Ghosh and music was composed by Arundhati himself. The film was critically acclaimed and become successful at the box office and ran for 25 weeks in the theaters.
Nripati Nath Chttopadhyay was a Bengali actor, known for his role in Teen Kanya (1961), Bhanu Pelo Lottery (1958) and Dui Bari (1963). He died on 27 May 1975 in India.
Sei Chokh is a Bengali romantic drama film directed by Salil Dutta based on a story on Bengali novelist Bimal Mitra. The film was released 30 July 1976 under the banner of Gitali Pictures. Nachiketa Ghosh was the music director of Sei Chokh.
Bicharak is a Bengali psychological drama film directed by Pravat Mukhopadhyay and produced by Arundhati Devi based on a same name novel of Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay and music is composed by Timir Bhattachariya This film was released in 1959 under the banner of Prabhat Productions and received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali in 1960. The film starred Uttam Kumar and Arundhati Mukherjee in lead role and others like Chhabi Biswas, Pahadi Sanyal and Chandrabati Devi in important supporting role. The film showed Uttam Kumar one of the best performance ever as a Judge. This is also remembered as one of the best film in his career and best ever in Bengali Cinema history. The film also received huge critically acclaimed and saw the commercial success.
Netaji is a Bengali biographical soap opera on the life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose that premiered on 14 January 2019 and aired on Bengali GEC Zee Bangla. Based majorly on Udyata Kharga Subhash by Achintya Kumar Sengupta and produced by Surinder Films, the series stars Abhishek Bose in the eponymous role, with Basabdatta Chatterjee, marking her comeback on television, Dhruvajyoti Sarkar, Kaushik Chakraborty, Sriparna Roy, Debopriyo Sarkar, Sohan Bandopadhyay, Fahim Mirza appearing in other recurring roles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooting of the series was stalled. It was rumoured that along with Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni, this series will be axed the channel. Putting rest to such rumours, the shooting started from June 11 and new episodes started to air from June 15, 2020.
Chhuti is a 1967 Bengali film, based on a novel by Bimal Kar. It marked the directorial debut of Arundhati Devi, who also wrote the screenplay and composed the music for the film. At the 14th National Film Awards, it won the National Film Award for Best Film Based on High Literary Work. It also won a number of BFJA Awards, including Best Director.
Megh o Roudra is a Bengali drama film directed by Arundhati Devi and produced by Ajitesh Bandopadhyay based on Rabindranath Tagore's short story by the same name. This film was released in 1969 under the banner of K.L. Kapur Productions.
Prothoma Kadambini was an Indian Bengali television biographical period drama based on the biography of the first practising female physician of British-ruled India and South Asia, Doctor Kadambini Ganguly. The show was aired on Bengali General Entertainment Channel Star Jalsha and is also available on digital platform Hotstar, that was premiered on 16 March 2020. The show is produced by Shree Venkatesh Films and starred by Solanki Roy and Honey Bafna in lead roles. The show went to off-air on 28 February 2021.
Godhuli Alap was an Indian Bengali Romantic Drama television series produced by Raj Chakraborty under the banner of Raj Chakraborty Productions. It premiered on 21 March 2022 on Bengali General Entertainment Channel Star Jalsha. The show is available on Disney+ Hotstar. The show stars Kaushik Sen, Somu Sarkar and Diya Chakraborty.
Chandranath is a 1957 Indian Bengali language romantic drama film under the banner of Screen Classics Private Ltd. It was directed by Kartik Chatterjee, and the music was composed by Robin Chatterjee. The film is based on Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's novel of same name and starring Uttam Kumar in title role with Suchitra Sen in lead and others like Chabi Biswas, Tulsi Chakraborty, and Chandrabati Devi in supporting role. The film become huge success at the box office.
