Odisha,formerly Orissa,is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the 8th largest state by area,and the 11th largest by population. The state has the third largest population of Scheduled Tribes in India. It neighbours the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal to the north,Chhattisgarh to the west,and Andhra Pradesh to the south. Odisha has a coastline of 485 kilometres (301 mi) along the Bay of Bengal in Indian Ocean. The region is also known as Utkala and is mentioned by this name in India's national anthem,"Jana Gana Mana". The language of Odisha is Odia,which is one of the Classical Languages of India.

Odissi,also referred to as Orissi in old literature,is a major ancient Indian classical dance that originated in the temples of Odisha –an eastern coastal state of India. Odissi,in its history,was performed predominantly by women,and expressed religious stories and spiritual ideas,particularly of Vaishnavism through songs written and composed according to the ragas &talas of Odissi music by ancient poets of the state. Odissi performances have also expressed ideas of other traditions such as those related to Hindu Gods Shiva and Surya,as well as Hindu Goddesses (Shaktism).

Gajapati district is a district of Odisha State in India. It was created from Ganjam District on 2 October,1992. Pana Sankranti,,also known as Maha Bishuba Sankranti,is the traditional new year day festival of Odia people in Odisha,India. The festival occurs in the solar Odia calendar on the first day of the traditional solar month of Meṣa,hence equivalent lunar month Baisakha. This falls on the Purnimanta system of the Indian Hindu calendar. It therefore falls on 13/14 April every year on the Gregorian calendar.
Madhusudan Das was an Indian lawyer and social reformer,who founded Utkal Sammilani in 1903 to campaign for the unification of Odisha along with its social and industrial development. He was one of the prominent figure,helping in the creation of Orissa Province,which was established on 1 April 1936. He was also the first graduate and advocate of Orissa. He is also known as Kulabruddha,Madhu Babu,and Utkal Gouraba. In Odisha,his birthday is celebrated as the Lawyers' Day on 28 April.

Jalia Kaibarta is a community comprising people of low ritual status,fishermen,who later acquired respectable caste identities within the larger Hindu fold,helped by their commercial prosperity and Vaishnavite affiliations,through Sanskritisation. They are traditionally engaged in the occupation of fishing and originally belonged to Assam,West Bengal,Odisha and eastern Bihar along with Bangladesh,Nepal,Bhutan. The Kaibartas were initially considered a single tribe divided into two groups,Haliya and Jaliya Kaibarta,where the Haliya Kaibarta are considered to be superior than the latter. Jaliya Kaibartas are categorised as a Scheduled Caste are the second largest among the 16 SCs in Assam under the name Kaibarta/Jalia. Many of the Jalia Kaibarta under the influence of Garamur satradhikar gave up their traditional occupation of fishing and divided themselves into –mach mara and mach na-mara.
