The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) is a pro-Palestinian, anti-Zionist, socialist, and anti-imperialist organization with chapters across North America and Europe. [1] The group has participated in political actions with the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a communist party in the United States, and the ANSWER Coalition. [1] [2] [3] [4] It is mainly composed of Palestinian and Arab young people. [1] [5]

According to Giving Compass, a website that provides information about nonprofit organizations to prospective donors, PYM was founded in 1982. [6]

PYM has participated in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war protests in the United States, including the 2024 Columbia University occupation [7] [8] [9] and the July 2024 protest in Washington D.C. [10] alongside various other groups, and has taken an approach compared to that of New York City anti-Zionist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL), in refusing to work within the Democratic Party. [11]

Notably, in 2024 PYM participated in the creation of the first English translation of Wisam Rafeedie's novel The Trinity of Fundamentals, which discusses Palestinian resistance. Rafeedie is a self-admitted PFLP member, and a former Palestinian prisoner who was held in Israel. [5] [12]

There are no diplomatic relations that exist between Israel and Yemen and relations between the two countries are very tense. Yemen refuses the admission of people with an Israeli passport or any passport with an Israeli stamp, and the country is defined as an "enemy state" by Israeli law. During the Israel–Hamas war, the Houthi movement in Yemen launched a missile and drone striking campaign against Israel and ships in the Red Sea.

Jewish left Movement of activists whose Judaism informs their support left-wing or liberal causes

The Jewish left consists of Jews who identify with, or support, left-wing or left-liberal causes, consciously as Jews, either as individuals or through organizations. There is no one organization or movement which constitutes the Jewish left, however. Jews have been major forces in the history of the labor movement, the settlement house movement, the women's rights movement, anti-racist and anti-colonialist work, and anti-fascist and anti-capitalist organizations of many forms in Europe, the United States, Australia, Algeria, Iraq, Ethiopia, South Africa, and modern-day Israel. Jews have a history of involvement in anarchism, socialism, Marxism, and Western liberalism. Although the expression "on the left" covers a range of politics, many well-known figures "on the left" have been of Jews who were born into Jewish families and have various degrees of connection to Jewish communities, Jewish culture, Jewish tradition, or the Jewish religion in its many variants.

Pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses started in 2023 and escalated in April 2024, spreading in the United States and other countries, as part of wider Israel–Hamas war protests. In the U.S. over 3,100 protesters have been arrested, including faculty members and professors, on over 60 campuses. On May 7, protests spread across Europe with mass arrests in the Netherlands. By May 12, twenty encampments had been established in the United Kingdom, and across universities in Australia and Canada. The protests largely ended as universities closed for the summer.
