He is the pioneer of Banku music, a fusion of sound he describes as a mixture of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns. The building was originally named after its first occupant, the South African shipping company Safmarine. The building was originally owned by Old Mutual Investment Group Property Investments. In August 2023 the hotel within the building was sold to the real estate private equity firm Kasada Capital Management, the hotel is now operated by Accor under the Pullman brand.
