Pantagruel is an international early musicensemble specialising in semi-staged performances of Renaissance music. The group was formed in Essen, Germany at the end of 2002 by the English lutenist Mark Wheeler (lute, cittern, and gittern) and the German born Dominik Schneider (Renaissance recorder and flute, gittern, and vocals). With the addition of the Scottish soprano Hannah Morrison in 2004, the ensemble began to perform throughout Europe.
Performances have taken place at the Münster Baroque Festival, Utrecht Early Music Festival, Aachen Bach Festival, and the National Portrait Gallery in London. In 2009 Morrison was replaced by Danish soprano Anna Maria Wierød.
The group is named after Pantagruel, the protagonist of François Rabelais's 1532 novel Gargantua and Pantagruel. They have adopted the book's motto "do what thou wilt" to describe their approach to early music. They combine serious musicological research with their experience not only in classical music, but also in rock music, jazz, theatre, and dance. Their performances further expand classical concert conventions using renaissance practices of medley, improvisation, and gesture.

He held residencies at Princeton University, the University of Illinois, and the University of York before emigrating to the United States in 1975; he became a U.S. citizen in 1983. In 1984, Rands's Canti del Sole, premiered by Paul Sperry, Zubin Mehta, and the New York Philharmonic, won the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He has since taught at the University of California, San Diego, the Juilliard School, Yale University, and Boston University. An early music revival is a renewed interest in music from ancient history or prehistory. The general discussion of how to perform music from ancient or earlier times did not become an important subject of interest until the 19th century, when Europeans began looking to ancient culture generally, and musicians began to discover the musical riches from earlier centuries. The idea of performing early music more "authentically", with a sense of incorporating historically accurate performance practice, was more completely established in the 20th century, creating a modern early music revival that continues today.

Marco Polo – The Journey is an album by Ensemble Renaissance, released in 1992 on the Artelier Music label in Germany. It is Renaissance's 11th album. The heme of the album is early music from the time of the travels of Marco Polo. It is one of the Renaissance's more eclectic works, covering not only the instrumental istanpittas of the Italian Trecento and earlier Franciscan laudas, but also Byzantine chant, girl songs from Cyprus preserved in the Manuscript 1203 kept in Iviron monastery, Persian and Arabic dances, traditional Music of Mongolia and Ancient Chinese ceremonial music. Marco Polo is one of the Ensemble's biggest successes, having spent a few weeks at the top of the classical music charts in Germany, in the 1993.
Robert White is an American tenor and voice teacher who has had an active performance career for eight decades. If he is not better known to the general public, it is because his career, confined to art song and the concert stage, has not brought him the wider renown of singers who make their careers in opera; but he has long been cherished by connoisseurs of vocal music for the pure lyric sweetness of his voice and his scrupulous musicianship.
