Bethalto Community Unit School District 8 is a unified school district based in the Madison County village of Bethalto, Illinois; the district is on the outskirts of the St. Louis Metro Area. The campus is located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Sherrard, just north of the Mercer-Rock Island county line, 10 miles (16 km) south of Milan, and serves a mixed village and rural residential community. The school district was formed in 1960 by combining the independent school districts and high schools of Cresco, Chester, Elma, Lime Springs, and Ridgeway.
