History

The company was founded by Gerard O'Hare in 1996. [2] Parker Green International owns among other assets, The Quays Shopping & Leisure Complex, Newry, Northern Ireland, Drumalane Mill Newry, Northern Ireland, and Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Carlow, Ireland.

The company itself claims to be "sensitive developer with regard to historic buildings and environment". [3] In 2006, Parker Green International, represented by Gerard O’Hare, Chairman, was the sponsor of Special Olympics Ireland Games. [4]

Parker Green's Gerard O'Hare was in third position in an Irish Independent list of the "Top Twenty Irish property tycoons". [5]

Parker Green retains former Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as an advisor. [6] The advisory board also includes .Alf Dubs, Baron Dubs and Dennis Rogan, Baron Rogan of the House of Lords. [2] [7]

In 2015, the company refinanced $1 billion in loans from Cerberus Capital Management, which O'Hare described as a "a red letter day" for the Northern Irish economy. [8]

Today the village of Bessbrook straddles the three townlands of Maghernahely, Clogharevan and Maytown. Bessbrook is near Newry railway station. It had a population of 2,892 at the 2021 Census. The model village of Bessbrook, County Armagh is a visible memorial to the commercial endeavours of the Richardson family over a number of generations.

Robert Wintour and Thomas Wintour, also spelt Winter, were members of the Gunpowder Plot, a failed conspiracy to assassinate King James I. Brothers, they were related to other conspirators, such as their cousin, Robert Catesby, and a half-brother, John Wintour, also joined them following the plot's failure. Thomas was an intelligent and educated man, fluent in several languages and trained as a lawyer, but chose instead to become a soldier, fighting for England in the Low Countries, France, and possibly in Central Europe. By 1600, however, he changed his mind and became a fervent Catholic. On several occasions he travelled to the continent and entreated Spain on behalf of England's oppressed Catholics, and suggested that with Spanish support a Catholic rebellion was likely.
